Vin 2062

For those of you who don't know, Chris Harding runs the DeLorean Cars workshop and I thought it was about time I posted photos of his car. Mike's photos at the docks in Southampton made me think that one of the cars in the background may well be this one. Chris bought it through DMUK several years ago - he wanted a project car and that's what he got! Not content with the usual restoration, Chris soon realised he didn't like the car being wrong-hand drive, nor did he like the original engine. He also decided to include a digital dashboard from a Vauxhall Carlton, for reasons known only to himself.

For those who might ask "why?" - the answer is that the liners were leaking and rather than rebuild the entire engine, or even fit a Volvo equivalent, Chris decided he may as well go for better fuel economy and better performance (230hp as standard) for a donor engine that cost less than the parts required to fix the original.

That was until he realised that the only manual 3 litre Vauxhall Omegas ever sold in this country went exclusively to the police... getting hold of a flywheel proved tricky.

Due to a change in his own circumstances, the car has sat for the best part of 3 years, but he keeps threatening to get back to it one of these days. When I stop landing other work on him all the time

Nice! I didn't realise the 3.0 Omegas put out 230bhp - or is that with some help from the ECU/exhaust?

Omega engine mounted to the stock transmission via an adapter plate. Omegas are RWD.

Blimey ...what a beast!

That could be the 3rd car at the docks ! I know the other one was Thomas Mc from Ireland but never found out whos the 3rd one was!

Maybe ask him if it came on the Hual Tropicania V351 circa 12 June 2004 ? be nice to find out after 5 years :) If so it could be one of the top two pics

Cheers Martin

Nope :-( that one's far too nice. Parked in the exact same spot tho (not that that narrows things down!)

How difficult is it to transplant an Omega engine? Do the electrics not cause hassle?

The biggest problem turned out to be the lack of available flywheels for that engine in this country. The chassis required modification for the new engine mounts, but no cutting was necessary. Chris wired in the factory ECU, and part of the reason of fitting a Carlton dash was that it supports all the Omega sensors

Ironically, at the minute I can get an ex-police Omega tomorrow but a Volvo is proving more difficult
