After so many issues, the car finally went for it's MOT today and true to form it failed. Here is what it failed on...
What do people think? Looks easily fixable...

Which side is offside, if offside is the passenger side on an uk car, but in a lefthand drive? My guess is 'right' (when viewed from the rear). And i'm not talking footy.

Haven't you replaced your lower ball joints? Surely everyone has by now? Which ones have you got on there?
Handbrake issues are common and will often need adjustment. The washer bottle motor not working at all is also common - if that is the problem?
I assume you haven't fitted a fog lamp? The easy way to do this is put an illuminating switch in the car and a temporary fog light hanging off the back, in order to pass the test. The better way to do it is a wiring modification of the rear lights, change one of the dummy switches for a real one, and use the "lambda" light as the internal illumination.

Yeah i bought new lower control arms and they had new ball joints in so bit strange there?
Ah right, are they pricey the motors?
Yeah we'd fitted a temporary one on the back so thought this was all working and would just take it off after. I like the idea about the wiring mod though so that might be an idea in the future.

No, not strange at all. You've got ball joints from Ed/DMCH and you haven't read any of the 100s of "failure" threads on the various forums - including this one: viewtopic.php?f=20&t=2198 - this one: viewtopic.php?f=13&t=490 - and this one: viewtopic.php?f=18&t=1433&start=18

You'll need to replace both of the front lower ball joints. This is what happens when a ball joint fails:

Image

If Ed won't replace both of them for free, then these are what you want: viewtopic.php?f=66&t=2282 - We have supplied these to most of the vendors now, and this is what DMCH/Ed have just finally started selling.

OllieWilks wrote:Ah right, are they pricey the motors?

Not at all. We stock them, as do Halfords (cheaper). Here are some other (cheaper) options: viewtopic.php?f=25&t=15 - Just be sure it is that that has failed.

Ouch! My bad then, no i hadn't seen these threads i guess i was naively thinking that if they were new and from DMC Europe they were going to be fine. Will order some of those then! :)

Where did the lower arms come from? Just because they are new doesn't mean they are any good. I think all the ones from the USA are crap. Owners in the know buy our british made ball joints.

Offside fog missing..... does that mean there is a nearside fog that works? If so just move it to the other side as you only need one.

Hazzards not working.... assuming they worked before you took it for the mot and something has gone wrong? If so its probably just a fuse or the flasher relay packed up.
