Looks like it was sprayed on prob very thinly, with as Nick says no proper treatment.

It was, yes, although Lawrence said he subsequently spent many hours sanding down the frame before re-treating it and painting it. It does indeed look like it maybe didn't get sanded enough...

Did he use a rust neutraliser after sanding like the Kur-Rust brand?

Would you consider doing a 'frame off ' and galvanising etc at this time , looking at the problem you have and where you are with this at the moment, I feel this would be your best way to go.

Im afraid to say that any other way will eventually come back as rust.

Regards

Well I've thought about it but Chris seems pretty confident he can get the frame into good shape without doing a frame off so I'm going along with that really. It's one of those things where it's obviously great to galvanise it but who are you really doing it for, because will I have the car in 30 years?

If the job that's being done now means the frame will look tidy for 10 years then that will be enough for me. Realistically I will probably have flogged the car by then and the extra £££s spent on the frame off I wouldn't get back at resale time.

Also there are the random problems you get after taking the body off that get avoided too. So that's my reasoning anyway...

Good point there Jez. I think you might get the money back from doing a frame off (if all you were doing was tackling the frame and refitting most of the old components).

I'm not sure about the rest of you but I probably wouldnt buy another Dmc if it didnt have a galvanised chassis.

Problem with a frame off is...

You end up spending more because..you " replace this while I am in there" " I'll polybush them " " Powdercoat this" etc

It depends on how bad the frame is...and whether you plan on keeping the car for a good while.

As Thomas said!

I think the whole 'peace of mind' thing springs to mind..having had a couple of Spitfires which rust like there's no tomorrow...I didnt want any nasty surprises in years to come.
