So after driving round london all day back in october for the uber bttf pepsi thing, I put the delorean away in the garage happy that it had performed well in the terrible london traffic and foul weather without a glitch. A week later I revisited the car and noticed the garage stunk of gearbox oil. Looked under the car to find a pool of gearbox oil. 1st gear had been crunching for a while anyway and I suspected the syncro was worn, also the clutch has felt rough every since I've had the car and now the leak I decided to remove the whole box and get it rebuilt. While laying under the car swearing trying to remove the box without a lift or a pit I noticed some coolant coloured residue along the side of the engine where the head joins the block... head gasket obviously been leaking :( So time to pull the engine out and do that as well. Its also been leaking for a while so a good opportunity to replace the crank seals and waterpump.

While stripping the engine down one of the head bolts sheared off  This had to be drilled out and then the thread was fucked so it has been helicoiled. The next job will be sodablasting the block and cleaning up all the other parts ready to start rebuilding.

I also have the remains of the engine that I pulled out of the volvo 760, most of it is knackered - crank is scored, one of the spark plug threads chewed up etc, so the plan is to use the high compression pistons out of that and put them in the D engine when its rebuilt to make it into a B28E as the internals of the original D engine are all in superb condition. I also have the fueling and distributor off the volvo as well which will go on, along with new stainless exhaust. NickT has kindly taken all 12 injectors from the 2 engines and is going to test them so I can put back the best 6 in my finished engine, cheers Nick :)

Anyone have any use for this? The cat is nearly new, must be worth a few quid scrap value.

Nice work Dan! How much of a shag was it getting the engine out solo? How many hours do you reckon?

Piece of piss to get engine out, obviously used a crane. Gearbox was a pain in the arse but only because I dont have a lift or a pit. Dread to think how many hours will go into this lot. Just the cleaning up of all parts takes forever, not to mention the garage floor!

Dan,

I bought a cheap gearbox lift for about 80 quid. Sadly it is in Glasgow.... It was still a pain, but would have been more so without this. If you are interested I can post a link.

You may be ok without it if you have a bit of a helping hand tho.

Cheers Andy, but the plan is to re-attach the gearbox to the engine first and then drop the whole lot in using the engine crane.

Yeah, better bet probably!

I just couldnt be doing with taking the whole shebang out to do my clutch. Plus, a transmission jack is cheaper than an engine hoist!!
