VIN17152 - The utter utter b@rst......

I hate this car!

So today, being fathers day, I decide I'm allowed a bit of time to work on my cars and today its the turn of the D to get some love.

Digging through my pile of 'bits I need to put on the car' I find Ed/Julians rear stainless engine cover inserts, digging deeper i find the pack of new metal clips and the new engine cover hinges, sorted I know what I'm doing!

So everything goes to plan and she's looking luuvly :)

Thats what the world turns to rat poo, deciding that all the various crap that was on the parcel shelf would be better in the boot/hood I pull the latch 'SNAP!', thats a pisser especially as the cable is one of Ed's and only about 6months old, no problem I have an emergency wire courtesy of Mr G, SNAP! oh bugger :(

So for anyone who has a broken hood release cable and no backup here's how I opened my hood, which is a 82 flat hood remember to no gas flap.

1. Jack up the car, in order to remove the drivers side front wheel.
2. Lying under the car pop out the rubber bung from the brake reservoir access hole.
3. Unscrew the reservoir cap to make a bit more room.
4. Using a pole, I used a hydraulic jack handle, push up the carpet/board covering the bottom of the trunk.
5. Take a second rigid pole with some form of end hook or lip and reach up through the hole, hook the latch and pull like a b@stard.

If your lucky like me you'll pop the latch! Sounds simple took me flipping ages and wasn't my first approach.

Anyway at least the rear engine cover looks good.

These cards are like the other half of your life. Constant maintenance or one day she'll let you down. . Then she'll let you down randomly with no explanation. ...

Talking of experience of course. .

Glad you got it sorted, now go and buy decent cable from a bike shop or from a Vauxhall breakers yard. ...

The cable itself didn't actually break, the 'blob' on the end simply pulled off grrr!

Lol action shot!

Up by the TT grandstand that one, you never know who's pointing a camera at you.

@Daniel, nah my cars not jinxed its TRYING TO KILL ME!!!! What I didn't tell you was I had her up on two axel stands, each rated at 2 tons, one either side of chassis V of the petrol tank. Whilst I'm under the car I hear some rather loud creaking so make a quick exit! looking back I find one of the stands has slipped off the 3" wide chassis rail and is now sitting on the tub, just about where your feet go. Only the fact that I don't trust the damn thing and I had left the hydraulic jacks I'd used on either side in place just relaxed meant the jack 'caught' the side that slipped off and stopped it damaging the tub or coming down on me. Mr G obviously knows voodoo!
