I hate this car!
So today, being fathers day, I decide I'm allowed a bit of time to work on my cars and today its the turn of the D to get some love.
Digging through my pile of 'bits I need to put on the car' I find Ed/Julians rear stainless engine cover inserts, digging deeper i find the pack of new metal clips and the new engine cover hinges, sorted I know what I'm doing!
So everything goes to plan and she's looking luuvly
Thats what the world turns to rat poo, deciding that all the various crap that was on the parcel shelf would be better in the boot/hood I pull the latch 'SNAP!', thats a pisser especially as the cable is one of Ed's and only about 6months old, no problem I have an emergency wire courtesy of Mr G, SNAP! oh bugger
So for anyone who has a broken hood release cable and no backup here's how I opened my hood, which is a 82 flat hood remember to no gas flap.
1. Jack up the car, in order to remove the drivers side front wheel.
2. Lying under the car pop out the rubber bung from the brake reservoir access hole.
3. Unscrew the reservoir cap to make a bit more room.
4. Using a pole, I used a hydraulic jack handle, push up the carpet/board covering the bottom of the trunk.
5. Take a second rigid pole with some form of end hook or lip and reach up through the hole, hook the latch and pull like a b@stard.
If your lucky like me you'll pop the latch! Sounds simple took me flipping ages and wasn't my first approach.
Anyway at least the rear engine cover looks good.
