Huzzah!

Suspension all torqued, and a few other little bits sorted. Just been out for a drive, and it seems well.

Parnham pipe and club otterstat next. Weekend hopefully, then off to Wheels In Motion for alignment over the next few weeks.

But for now...

I cut out a new MDF back board to mount my (shit) 6x9s today. So I can ditch the (lethal when unsecured!) boxes currently on the parcel shelf. I need to source a grey cloth to cover it, so any pointers appreciated...

I also flushed the cooling system (unnecessarily) and fitted my new ally pipe for the screw-in otterstat, and the club screw in stat (87-92).

I think I prefer this temp range on my car, (DMC Eu) fans come on just after a quarter and go off about 30 seconds later. This is as it was before my original otterstat failed. I bought a 88-96 otterstat, without realising that previously fitted was 87-92. I didn't like that fact that the gauge got just about halfway before the fans kicked in. They also took forever to go off.

So I now have the same temperature range stat as before, and have ditched the crap clip/ cable tie arrangement.

All good. A recommended buy, should you be thinking about it!

I started doing my fuel pressures with Mike W's kit, but decided that cold, dark, and tired were sub-optimal conditions to be cutting my teeth on high pressure fuel systems!! More reading to be done, and silly questions to ask. I will search on here to see if there is a guide to doing this.

Thanks for the offer, but I bought some (dark grey) carpet type stuff off ebay. Probably not a very good match, but Also probably not a million miles off.

Rear panel fitted with speakers, will post some pics tomorrow. Colour of the felt I bought turned out to be spot on.

I drove out to WiM to get a alignment done. It was almost unnecessary, the rear was fine, as expected after only 1000 miles. The front needed a very minor tweak, interestingly on the side of the broken LCA. I wonder if it was starting to go at the time of the last alignment.

Another thing we noticed. I was last at WiM in June 2011, just after I bought the car. I had done lower BJ's and I think 1 or 2 front wheel bearings. No bushes, and original LCA's. At the time, the camber was way off. After poly bushing the front and fitting DPNW sway bar kit (and all rears in rubber), the camber was back in limits.

Makes sense I guess, but interesting nonetheless.

Also nice that even changing the LCA's for the DMCMW ones, it didn't change the geometry. Shit cars can still be good fun!

Tomorrow- fuel pressures and centre the steering wheel (again!)

And I am delighted with the result!

I'm not a stereo snob, and the D is never going to be very good for this, but I can play banal rock music reasonably loud.

May do the fronts at some point but will need to make boxes to fit the foot wells.

Tho I now have the MDF and covering so if nothing else breaks then you never know! :dance:

That's a good job Andy! How much depth have you lost off the shelf do you reckon?

Are you still running the original fronts? You can do a straight swap to modern 4" speakers which is relatively straightforward and a worthwhile improvement. Did you disconnect your original rears?

I've gone for the sub in the cubby solution, was a bit of a faff with amps and shit but it makes a big difference.
