Nice work Andy! The accumulator really is an infamous cunt of a job.

Also make sure the fuel lines don’t get kinked in there too - happened to me which meant I was getting fuel starvation over 3k rpm all the way to Eurofest in 2011!

I am not quite sure what those unconnected green and black wires are!! Not OEM I think??

Anyway, don't go looking for problems with these cars.... another time!

As per the pic, I attached it to the tub, just inside the drivers footwell on the left hand side. It gives a nice run for the speedo cable, but does mean the power cables need to be extended. I ran it into the earth from the buzzer, and the switched live from the lamda counter plug.

The GPS receiver lives on top of the steelwork under the binnacle. Magnetic, so nice and easy.

All seems good and am pleased with it. Accurate, easy to calibrate and at least as good as the angle drive, without annual replacement I hope. Its not instant in its response from rest, up to about 5 mph, but I am not bothered about that. Not completely silent either, but much quieter than a rolling delorean!

I wouldn't have bothered if we could get reliable angle drives, but like wash bottle motors I now have one less regular service item to attend to.

Oh yeah! And a 25mm bung to fill the hole in the bulkhead for the old speedo cable may mean one less draught (but I doubt it)

So does this have a motor in it that spins a cable to drive your normal dash speedo at the appropriate rate? Nice!

Yep, picks up a GPS signal, feeds it, and converts this to a rotational movement to drive the cable, which connects into the binnacle.

just did about 30 miles with it, and am very pleased. Its not great below about 5mph, but I dont really need a speedo at that range.

All in, quite happy, if I can forget about the cost! (how many hours have I spent changing angle drives??)

D-life update.

A while back, slightly rough idle deteriorated to intermittent misfire, so the plugs showed:

Corresponding as you look at it from the rear fascia.

Noting rear left is sooty, I replaced them. That plug also showed sign of having been wet/ bit crusty. So it could be that.

Cleaned refitted, seemed better, then returned. I had injectors, so as a quick query tried a new injector. Ran ok, as soon as it got hot, it was perfect, and has been grand ever since.

Time to do the other 5 injectors. Also have a rotor and dizzy cap to try. Needs an oil change anyway...

So I had to go up to Fort William, with the car in London. Its not had a good spanking for ages, but has been fettled quite a lot, so I thought I'd try.

London to Glasgow 7h, 405 miles. Cos when these cars are good, they're great for a bit of that (rattles and clonks aside).

I noticed it was a bit juicy though!! Having only really used it for short journeys, and not nearly daily, maybe I didn't clock the prodigious thirst she had developed. About 23 mpg... previous had almost 30 I think, last time I looked at it. (But that was maybe when i first got it, and has had exhaust etc)

Anyway, will do the rest of the injectors, but I suspect something is amiss there. CPR was rebuilt by Nick about 5,000 miles ago. Fuel pressures done with the exhaust, maybe 3,000 miles ago? Any thoughts on this? What kind of mpg should we be returning?

Once I got up, I went to visit an old mate in Doune, near Stirling. It was superb, and I felt guilty at not taking any photos, so I took some photos.

Man, the scenery is just too good.

I am back where I grew up, the car is running awesome, its sunny, and the roads are relatively empty. Reminded me how shit these are on bad surfaces, and the twisties. I'm no racing driver, but pish front end very obvious, and it was shaking itself to death, but great fun. You'd really have to be a good driver to drive one of these fast!!

Saw my pal, headed home

I like that Speedhut GPS speedo, its entirely usable, seems reliable, more accurate/ consistent for sure at motorway speeds. Walking pace ain't good, then it wakes up with a slight jerk. But we all do that.

Caught the sunset on the way home

I was really pleased, 480-odd miles, some of them a bit unsympathetic.

Then another 120 miles this morning up past past Fort William. Also some ragging going on, but I figure I was conducting a test, to try to *increase* fuel consumption to maximal. Nope, even on that, 23 mpg.

Exhaust tips are a bit sooty. No fucking wonder, sooking all that fuel!

Up though Glencoe was nice, and not busy as we were early.

I may change the rest of the injectors before coming south, but you know that "if its not broke, and your ON YOUR FUCKING HOLIDAYS, dont fix it? I might just do that, and see if it gets home without bankrupting me. Or otherwsie dying, which would just be a slower way of bankrupting me.

Oh, and I don't like the front suspension bushes, which really don't like the Stirlingshire roads. They are on the list. As is a wee bit of welding where the clutch master failed under a PO. And I have to get the AC on. And I will never get to the fusebox I bought 10 years ago.

Thoughts on the thirst? Will see how the injectors go, but may wait until I am home.

Disconnect the oxygen sensor single blade electrical connector under the drivers side rear parcel shelf wooden board, it might have got sooted up from the knackered injector. Just make sure the frequency valve buzzes.

Enjoy the holiday, at least you've got some time off

Thanks nick, will try that and see if the next run (about 120 miles) is any better. Will report back in about a week!

Cheers, a
