VIN 4748

Postby frostrobo » Sat Sep 05, 2009 4:01 pm

Thought you all might like to know that I have finally become an owner..! I picked up VIN 4748 from Martin's on Wednesday and drove her 150 miles back to her new home near Ely.

The journey back was interesting.... car performed wonderfully, and I quickly adapted to the driving position and width of the car on the road. Had to deal with several traffic jams, roadworks, the M25 toll, heavy rain, and hitting the Cambridge A10 just in rush hour but we made it home safely.

Have to say a big thanks to my Dad who racked up 414 miles that day, picking me up and driving me down to pick up the car, then following me all the way back to Ely, then heading back home again!

Spent this morning fitting new numberplates and tidying up a few things on the car before going out on my first drive since getting her home!

Congratulations on your new purchase and welcome to the club !!!

If all you have is an icky window you have done great there !

Try cleaning the switch first just in case you have a slightly dirty contact.
They just gently lever out and use switch cleaner to clean the contact pads.
Worth a go instead of assuming the worst.

Enjoy and let us know how you get on with the car, your experiences etc. 8-)

Thanks guys... I'm very happy with the car and it's a great feeling driving it down the roads!

I will have another go at cleaning the switch and see how I get on. Otherwise I will have to delve into the door and see if I can get the window up manually.

Mike - I would love a workshop manual, so if you have a spare one, can you PM me with details please?

Tyson - Yes, I think you are only 12 miles from me as the crow flies across the Fens..! We should have a mini-meet sometime!

Passenger door is a bit tricky to shut and open, especially from the inside. The front of the door seems to go into place nicely, but in order to shut and lock the car I need to give the rear of the door a solid push so that it clicks into place and sits flush with the rear panel . When the door opens, it seems to be catching on the latch pin at the rear (I can hear it grating, metal on metal). Any tips on adjusting this, or does the door need to be rehung by someone who knows what they are doing? :)

And not far from me too! ;)

If you fancy a day out then come and see us all for the day on Saturday 17th October (only an hour away from you 8-) ): viewtopic.php?f=32&t=434

So far there will be 30 of us - will be a good way to get any little niggles fixed too!

Sounds like the rear latch pin needs adjusting, should be straightforward..

You could have a go yourself or come in October!

I think Darren C is coming, he is good at adjusting doors!, it does sound like just an adjustment issue.

Hey Simon, well lookie what we have here... ;)

Congratulations mate, I told you you'd get there in the end! Feels great doesn't it!! :D

Looks like a nice example car you got there, as Arran said you should bring her over to Caley Hall in Oct, would be good to see you! 8-)

In the meantime, just enjoy it! You deserve too, you've been waiting a long time for this moment to arrive! :)

All the best
