I did notice that the fuel pickup hose is very soft. I don't know how a new is supposed to be. I am thinking of putting a spring inside the pickup hose to keep it from collapsing. Is that a good idea?

New ones are quite hard - but yes, the spring idea is a common fix and will do just fine

After so many years in fuel the hose must have gotten softer then.
I found a long spring that I think will work.
I have another car with the infamous K jetronic and the fuel gets very hot when the tank is getting empty.
This car has a fuel tank up front like the D , but made out of metal. I think this transfers the heat better to the air when driving. Also the 911 has no radiator up front.

Got the new fuel line installed and got the Delorean back on his wheels today and drove it for the first time.
First impressions:
-men that clutch pedal is hard work
-shifts great
-steering wheel needs to be allined
-temperature gauge does not work, but i already know this
-engine runs great, sound could be better
-brakes are not that great
Have the car at my house now. Have a shed in my garden and made bigger doors in it so i can park the D inside.
This is just for the summer. Have insulated shed at my parents place for winter storage.
Next week I take the car to a local garage to check the brakes and handbrake before going to the technical test to apply for registration. Hope the handbrake is good enough, so hard to get both sides working the same.
Don't know what to do with temperature gauge. Tested the wire from engine to dash and it is good. Tested the runs in the dash going to the gauge, all good. The needle points all the way down to the "F" , no movement when turning on ignition. Drove 10 miles today and it did not move. Volt and oil gauges are working.

Thanks Rob, I still have all the covers removed under the hood, so easy to get to the steering shaft and just take it of and move it one spline to get the wheel straight. Should come of easy, replaced the steering bushing last month.
Wish i was not so busy with work so i could make apointment with RDW for the car.

It's a common fault with the temp gauge. Unscrew the black stick that comes out of the plastic, the thing you use to zero mileage trip.
With that out you get a bit of thin wire ( I use a bent hair grip ) between the plastic cover & 'flick' the needle up to the left. It will then work.
The needle has just flicked down

If you can find the correct bulkhead connector, you could hotwire the sensor and see if the temp gauge moves. If it doesn't you may want to inspect the console connector, but that would mean you have to remove the binnacle, not a quick job (which is mine is sitting with only 2 screws instead of 6 (or 4))

A few beers for Bandit!
Did the thing with the wire and it seems to work.
Gave it a push and it sat at 100. Then I drove 5 miles and it moved up to the white line.
It did however not go down after turning of the car. I have a look at it tomorow.
