I visited a friend who lives in Wanganui in 1996.
We both liked cars so he took me to a car museum in Palmerston North.
The museum had a Delorean in the collection. Must have been one of the first Delorean's I had ever seen.
Always liked the look of the car, never did see the movies or anything like that, just like the lines of the car.
Anyway, I do own one since a few months.
Do you know if the museum in Palmerston is still there? ( and the D )

Still there

Good spotting but thats not the museum in Palmy Delta is talking about, that is Southwards in Paraparaumu which is about an hour from Wellington,
if anybody is visiting NZ this should be on the must see list, the D they have has never been driven on NZ roads vin 5062

I'd love to know which one it is Gary.

I maintain a short list of cars on display around the world

The only ones I can find on line are a Maori one and a police one, neither sound like a DeLorean would be at home there

Great job on the gearbox Gary, maybe you can start producing that tool for other Delorean owners.
Damgermouse: thanks for the link to that museum.
Looking at here collection i am 100% sure i have seen some cars. I mean, how many Citroen SM cars with a belgium registration plate can there be in New Zealand?
So eather the museum has moved over the last 20 years or i was way of with the location.
I did make a video 8 movie in the museum, i have to look it up, sure i filmed the Delorean. I also remember there was a car that belonged to a gangster and it had one inch thick bulit proof glas.

Yes i think you are a bit off, you did visit Southwards and it is one of the best museums in NZ, not just cars but motorbikes, models, toys, washing machines etc etc but first it is a car museum and the gangster car is Micky Cohen's that had so much "armor" it weighed something like 6 or 8 tons

Did you make the 'doofer' yourself? That looks pretty neat to me!

yeah, i have an engineering company and we are a bit slow right now so it gave one of the guys something to do, it's a bit overkill but it did make it very easy to install the nut

You have an engineering company? thats pretty handy, now if you could get one of your guys to knock up a couple of hundred, affordable lower control arms made of something stronger than the 'tin foil' used in the originals. That would be really impressive.

Due to recent failures and lack of availability of arms, the manufacturer of new arms in the UK is now underway, made from billet aluminium and hard black anodised, fitted with new rubber bushes and club ball joints, they will be available within the next 3-4 weeks
There will be more details and pricing coming soon

and the muffler is original

made up the de-cat pipe and gave the muffler a bit of paint

while i had the muffler out i couldn't help myself so had the brackets and pulley replated and replaced the pulley main seal as that was leaking,
the pulley nut is a bastard to get off, 35mm socket and impact gun did the trick after a while
