I also suffer with "Scope Creep" when doing these types of jobs. You have to draw the line somewhere, but wild cams alone will not improve your motor, just make you poorer with a lumpy idle, non-standard motor that doesn't run as well as standard. Tho I am sure you know this already!!

Keep going!

ahhhhh bloody scope creep - I can't escape that terminology - I hear enough of it in work. :-)

More parts arriving, but it’s gonna be about a week and a half until assembly of the engine can commence since I decided to replace the valve train. And parts are on their way.

Nice new cams! Did you get them reprofiled to a different lift profile or are they kept stock? Whatever you do, make sure you run them in properly or you'll be taking out the engine again a few thousand miles later :o

I’ll do my best to run them in as well as possible, but I’m not sure if the engine is going to start immediately, or run for that matter. That’s an x-factor. I’m also debating whether I should put some special break in substance on them, or just soak them in engine oil. I spoke to a professional mechanic who said it was more critical in americano v8 with splash lubrication only.

The profile is stock, at least no obvious difference to the naked eyes.

I haven’t gotten any further than more cleaning. Very labor consuming.

Don’t put any ‘run in’ crap anywhere, just use engine oil on all the moving parts when building, then once done & fitted, spin it over on the starter for a while until you get oil pressure, before firing it up.

I spoke to KM Cams who sold me the cam shafts, and they recommended me to the following:
-soak everything in normal engine oil
-avoid idle, keep the rpms up to ensure adequate oil pressure (for "a while")
-leave the grey coating on the cams on, it's there for lubrication

Speak to Dan Knowlton, he has recently had his engine rebuilt so will be able to give his feedback.
