Tiny progress. What’s the proper torque for the cam gears? Thread locker?

What’s the piston behind the lock pin on the oil pump for?

That's what we done on mine then keep the revs up at 2000 rpm for at least twenty minutes to run them in, don't let it idle, after that first run check all valve clearances again as they will be miles out

I’ve been fiddling with some small stuff, loathing removal of old gasket material from the timing cover.

I wonder if I should port the exhaust ports in the heads? They are smaller than the gasket and headers. In addition the heads have provision for air injection. I could grind some of that down.

Any thoughts?

I wouldn't bother with 'porting' the exhaust port to size match the hope in the exhaust, I'd leave it alone as the size difference of the will act as an anti-reversal step that will prevent backflow into the head.

Another day of micro progress. Got the ignition distributor installed, and the cam gears torqued down.

I wasted a lot of time trying to figure out the timing procedure involving the hole in The Valley. I never got it to match the other timing indicators (visual on piston and mark on timing cover). Whatever .

On the other hand I made great progress removing old gasket material from the timing cover.

Unfortunately I discovered the dizzy cap was missing one of the hooks to clamp it down. I’d be happy if someone could donate one...

You open the access hope from the V section of the engine then put in a drill bit of equal hole size and move the crank until this locks the crank in the top dead centre. You then adjust the timing mark that is exterior to the engine as this is bolted on and slightly adjustable. You then set the timing of the distributor to number 1 and once done remove the drill bit etc

My engine is a B28E. There are multiple positions where the drill bit drops down, and none of them appear to be at TDC. What am I doing wrong?
