What are you reading online?
The guy who rebuilt my engine struggled with the timing as the new chains I supplied didn't have marks.

I found this and sent it to him and he managed to sort it. Hope it helps

Crank relative to piston is not affected by the chain.

And is the woodruff key somehow aligned with the #1 crank?

Success! :)

Today I did something interesting! I’ve been sorta paranoid about the oiling system not working properly. Seeing the cam wear, reading horror stories and listening to people talking down the prv got to me. So I decided I wanted to verify the function of the oiling system.

So I installed the oil pan, filter, pressure sensors and filled the sump with 4 liters of oil.

Then I started to crank the oil pump by hand. (Chain not fitted) This was very interesting and exciting!

After about 15 sec oil reached the pump, and it got a lot heavier. Next oil started pouring over the chains. A lot. At first it seemed excessive. But I kept it up, and it got even heavier at it reached the rocker shafts (which are pipes, really). And in the end I could see oil seeping out of each rocker . Hooray!!!!!

Now I can close the timing cover with peace of mind.

Yeah, now that I finally feel that I have everything under control, I can continue assembly in a more speedy fashion :)

Maybe I can have the whole lump ready to be dropped into the car this weekend. The forecast says rain, which means garage time!
