Thanks guys. :) The bracket is just sheet metal shaped and drilled, finished in gold metallic wheel paint to emulate the correct color.

Today I only got a little bit done. Cleaned all parts and got around to fitting the oil sump splash screen or whatever it's called...

Tomorrow I need to get some o-rings for the oil pump pickup, and then I'll probably be ready to close up the bottom end of the engine again.

Next up after that will be the engine wiring harness I think.

Small steps... got the oil pan back on tonight. New o rings and thread lock for the pump. Used some gasket silicone for the pan gasket and torqued the bolts to spec; 16Nm. The front ones are really close to the frame, so I couldn't get the torque wrench on it, so I had to do them by feel, but I compared to the others so they're not that far off.

I filled the engine with oil, and measured the resistance over the pressure sensor as I cranked the engine over on the starter. At rest I got 95 Ohm, and while cranking it rose to 170 Ohm maximum. I take this as a sign that the engine got clean oil through its veins for the first time in approximately 25 years.

The wiring harness came out, and I’m starting to assess the rodent attack damage.

Today I managed to get some garage time. Fixing the wiring was on the agenda.

Pretty satisfied with the results.

I also paid some attention to the firewall bracket, it’s currently in primer, awaiting satin black paint.

All the connectors got cleaned out with a tiny dremel tool.

So, what’s new... got the fuel filter finally installed and the shiny new steel braided fuel line that runs to the engine bay.

The reverse switch wiring is repaired and installed, also the tachometer wiring from the distributor is fixed and in place.

Got the firewall and engine bay fiberglass cleaned and treated with some finisher.

The small wiring loom is also repaired and installed, and the bracket is painted in satin black, ready to go back in.

Next up will be installing the main wiring harness in the engine bay. From then on I’ll be getting on with fitting everything that goes into The Valley. :)

Today I installed the water pipes in The Valley. The original one had some corrosion pitting on the mating surface, so I went to fetch a spare from my Volvo engine. To my surprise it was a complete different casting.

A set of new bolts came with the car from the P.O. But Hervey got them wrong, so Volvo to the rescue again.

I’ve come down with a case of tennis elbow. So wrenching and typing is hard. Left hand only....

Then this happened: the bolt in the thermostat housing that holds the throttle wire mechanism had broken off.

And my Volvo spare was yet again different.
