Make sure to replace those old flex brake lines! The old ones on my D would expand when braking hard, so not much brake action going on. The club sells a nice set of stainless.

I'm a bit of a Scrooge, but still, new flex brake lines are in the mail. Also, soft fuel lines will be replaced, I don't want to use my fire extinguisher...

The boot for the steering rack was really hard to install on the passenger side. I used a hacked soda can to bridge the gap and get it over the end of the rack. Spent a lot of time there.

I also got the second tie rod end installed, and the brake hoses removed. They appear flawless. Not even superficial micro cracks were found upon close inspection.

They will still be replaced.

Pulled the clutch slave today, decided to give the master a try as it is. I already have a new slave, so that will be installed regardless.

Also did some tidying in the engine bay.

The block appears to be repaired. That's not great, but we'll just have to see how it works.

New parts arrived today! Brake MC, 50/50 Saab unit.

Almost ready to get the brakes buttoned up, but I need to verify the health of the parking brake cables first.

Hopefully a couple of nights away from completing brakes and clutch. Looking forward to new adventures with the fuel system.

And finally the ultimate adventure: digging into the engine bay :)

A short work session tonight. Got the whole left front corner finished. Installed the brake MC and cleaned the booster and that whole general area. Also installed pads and prepared the other front caliper, so it is only a five minute job to finish that as well.

Got the new flex lines today, along with the new piston for one of the rear calipers. Installed it but I'm still waiting for the dust seal on that one.

I would like to clean out the brake fluid reservoir better. I tried using acetone but not all the gunk dissolved. Any suggestions?

Not much to see here. Trying to stay disciplined and do one thing at a time. Replaced the rear brake hoses. Again, the old ones looked perfect and unaffected by age. Let's say it wasn't completely useless...

I'm super excited to get started on the engine, but I'll stick to plan: brakes and clutch first. I'll need at least one more night to get them done.

I noticed the plywood sheet behind the seats looks bad, maybe I'll make a new one. Anyone else done that?
