Tonight I organized my workshop.

Helps boost motivation and clear my mind.

The B28E has an ETA of next Tuesday.

Ok, I need some advice...

Engine 1
The original engine in my car has 13.000miles but sat for a long time. It had water in the cylinders and intake ports, it turned out. Rust in 3 cylinders, rusty valve seats and stems. I figured I’d run it for a season and see what happened. Well, it wouldn’t run properly, and I recently discovered it had a bent intake valve on #3. Cams have no visible wear, and there’s no oil sludge in the valve covers.

Engine 2
B28E, sat outside for a long time. Had moisture in the valve covers, so the cams are pitted by rust, and somewhat worn. Cylinders also have rust.

Engine 3
B28E, my recent purchase. Unknown mileage. Sat in dry storage for many years. Valve stems and seats look clean, so hopefully the cylinders are ok. But the valve covers were full of oil sludge, and the cams are unfortunately crazy worn. And who knows what else the apparently poor oil quality and maintenance led to.

My initial plan was to go all in on the recent B28E purchase, get all the correct Volvo parts, and go all in on a full euro spec B28E. However the worn valve train has me got doubtful.

I could swap the good dmc cams into the B28E, but then it would be a compromise, and I wonder if it’s worth it spending money on refreshing the Volvo fueling and ignition bits, when I don’t have the correct cams.

Any thoughts?

Cheers

Magne

Having driven both DeLoreans with the stock B28F (with UK exhaust), and a DeLorean with a full Volvo B28E (with UK exhaust), go all out on the B28E, you won't regret it.

? They are the same on that chart.... (type 3)

As far as any Volvo dealer is concerned there is just one part number for all variants of the E and F. The new and used camshafts I have in stock are all "Volvo" ones, but they are the same as DeLorean ones as far as I'm aware.

The official Renault numbers for the camshafts they supplied for the DeLorean engine are 7910247110 and 7910247111 which are of course different to above. But that doesn't necessarily mean they are different, just different numbers.

Good news, less money to spend.

On the other hand, this gives me an opportunity to check and clean up the oil channels in the valve lifters. The holes that are spraying/dripping oil on to the cam loves are crazy tiny! Doesn’t take much debris to block that.

As Mike and Arran, you'd get some money back by selling the other engines, as long as the engine blocks aren't corroded and the oil galleries are good.
