Micro session in the garage tonight, but my first score! Got clutch!

I installed a new hose from the reservoir to the MC, filled the reservoir and let it gravity bleed for a while. Later I pushed the pedal a few times and the slave started squirting. Closed the bleed nipple and voila! Clutch operating! I still need to bleed it properly.

I also found a way to clean the brake fluid reservoir. I filled it with thinner and put a few nuts and washers into the isolated cavities. Started shaking and the brown deposits slowly cleared.

I had terrible trouble bleeding my clutch. Installed a new hose thinking bleeding would be a piece of cake 2hours later I was still at it. Glad you'remaking such swift progress. Laters

Bleeding the clutch on my Porsche 928 was literally driving me crazy. I spent weeks... at least it felt like it. In the end I had to pull the piston out of the master cylinder while it was installed, and using a syringe filling it with fluid. No, wait, that was another car... I pulled the piston just enough out to bleed air out of the MC, to get things going. After that I got the rest out pumping the pedal .

On my fiat I had a hard time getting the MC going too, after renovating and replacing the whole thing. Getting going with a dry system can be hard. I reverse bled it by pushing fluid from the calipers, using a tube in a jar and compressed air.

I finally got the correct tool to refresh the threads on the left rear caliper. So got that assembled and installed on the car. I also figured out how the parking brake adjustment works, and took the opportunity to adjust both sides.

The brake fluid reservoir also got installed tonight and filled with fluid.

All it takes now is bleeding. I'm gonna need help with that.

A Volvo 760 coolant bottle also arrived in the mail today. It does not share any significant properties with the delorean bottle. The cap doesn't fit, hoses are in different positions and different sizes, and I need to fabricate a new bracket and drill holes in the body. My motivation for doing all that is not the greatest...

I'm fortunate enough to have a house, family and other hobbies, so no time for Zachary lately. But today I finally found time to bleed the brakes and clutch.

Worked like a charm. Had my son work the pedals while I successively opened/closed the bleed nipple.

I even did and extra lap around the whole car to double check all the calipers.

BTW, how much travel should I see at the clutch slave? I had bubbles when bleeding...

The clutch master looks new so I didn't touch it. Also no leaks, and the slave is new.

Still, it would add to my level of comfort to verify that I have the appropriate amount of travel at the slave .

Should I pour some ATF into the cylinders?

The car hasn't run in >22 years, but the po claimed it turned over easily on the starter a few years ago.

Great day! Today I connected a battery to Zachary for the first time. Status:
- headlights worked
- wipers work
- dash voltmeter came to life
- (drumroll) the starter kicked in and the engine turned over!!!
- an annoying buzzer came on, and wouldn't go away
The seatbelt warning light came on once.
- the front side marker lights were on the whole time

Nothing else worked. Horn, fan, hazard, turn indicators

But what the heck, I have brakes, clutch and an engine that turns over! When I get it to run I can drive the thing!!!

Nice! - I REALLY enjoyed putting the strainner and clips in last weekend - now I know what a vet feels like operating up a cows bum!


oh, and don't do what I did - put a small LED lamp inside the tank .... and left it in there doh!!!

Martin Gutowski's video on you tube was a great eye opener for me ... I notice that the editing left out the times the nut slipped off, clips were not "clipping" - it seemed seamless. Heck, now I've done it "I'm an expert!"

Now all I got to find are the wires going to the pump! - Hey, would you take a picture when you do yours so I can check the orientation of the wires on the fuel pump please?
