When I did my rebuild I put the brake res. In the dishwasher, came out like new

1. Fuel accumulator is a bitch to work on. And the bracket is missing.
2. Bottom fitting for the fuel filter does not fit the new one, even though they are the same part number.
3. I'm gonna replace everything downstream of the fuel filter. No old gunk or debris to clog the expensive bits...

So I'm not surfing the sweet wave of success from yesterday anymore.

Yes, you can’t use the original Bosch part number – or any Bosch fuel filter in fact, it has a different fitting (captive nut) at the bottom and will leak, even with PTFE tape - so you have to use one of the many alternatives. If you want to use the Bosch filter then you have to modify the 90 degree fitting to use a straight M14 thread, using a M14 die – then use a washer to seal it - as per Andy S's idea on here.

I just realized that once the hard line is undone, the unit can come down through the hole with the hoses still attached. And last night I actually got the nut to the hard line fitting off, so I just need to wiggle the accumulator out, and then get the hoses off.

On my car the accumulator was zip tied to the frame. I'm gonna fabricate a bracket to make it more like the original setup.

Fuel accumulator is out. I'm waiting for some odds and ends to wrap up the fuel system.

I'm worried about the state of the engine, I can see some rust I a couple of the cylinders...

I have a Volvo short block that looks good, but that's not going in this winter.

When I tried to drain the oil, nothing came out. Great. After poking around in there the clog released itself and the old oil finally drained. I'm gonna drop the pan to clean it out properly.

An update:

Last night I finished cleaning up and refitting the fuel filler neck, and pulled the steering wheel to fit a new fire wall bushing. No biggie, but I decided to not fit the wheel again, since I'm gonna replace the dash and interior later on.

I also dropped the oil pan. Let me tell you one thing: if you're resurrecting something that has been sitting for a while, don't attempt to start it. Drop the oil pan and check out the mess. It was beyond any imagination. About an inch of solid tar at the bottom, and the oil pump pickup completely clogged.

I'm not even sure if the pickup is possible to save... the inner parts are hard to get to, and I need to trust that it's clean and open.

Interesting day!

Today I finished cleaning the belly pan, and the clogged oil pickup strainer thingy.... I'm finally confident that it's completely open and the mesh at the intake is free of any debris. It has lots of leftover from gasket sealant.

The last thing I did was to fabricate a fuel strainer mounting bracket. Currently in primer but I'm gonna finish it in some fancy paint that I have left over from previous projects. Maybe gold metallic

I'm loathing removing the leftovers from the pan gasket on the engine block. That'll be fun...
