Very good to hear from you and what a surprise! Where do I begin...at the beginning I suppose. I bought the car in November 2004 from a guy in Tulare, California which is about 2 hours south of where I live. According to him, his dad was the original owner. [
KMC - Harveys Lake Tahoe Casino Owner] I don't recall the circumstances of how it changed from father to son but when I purchased it there was much work to be done to the car. As it turned out I wasn't able to spend as much time or money on it as I had hoped but I did do a few things. After towing it home and looking over it I noticed that there was a coolant leak in the hoses running from the radiator back to the engine so I had all the rubber hoses replaced. The shop that did the work asked me if the car had been flooded. [
KMC - Don' think so cos' frame is in good condition]Apparently there was a lot of mud stuck to the frame and I was a little upset that the person I bought it from wasn't more forthcoming with that kind of information. The next issue to be repaired was the clutch master and slave cylinder. The clutch master cylinder had gone out and was leaking through the firewall and onto the floorboard which ruined the carpet. [
KMC - Yep, I've had them cleaned in my bath] The last major repair I tackled was replacing the fusebox. I think this is what you're referring to that has every wire cut and re-crimped. When I got the car the fusebox was melted. After talking with DMC in Houston, Texas I found out that it was a design flaw in the factory's placement of it to begin with. It was mounted too close to the battery and, if I remember correctly, an adverse electromagnetic current between the battery and the fusebox caused the problem. I found out other DeLorean owners had relocated their fusebox into the glovebox, far away from the battery. [
KMC - Ah hah... so thats the reason for all the cut wires?!]Those were the two biggest repairs I did. The others were minor such as the door struts, shift boot, headlights and the part of the steering column which has the turn signal and wiper controls on it. I also put in the Alpine stereo but didn't get far. I sold it in October of 2005 to a guy who lived not far from me, only about 30 minutes away. I only did so after coming to terms with the fact that I would not be able to spend the kind of time and money that I wanted to on the car and had other responsibilities that required more of both. I have always loved the DeLorean since I first saw Back To The Future. I was 9 years old when the movie came out and very impressionable but it has always been the absolute dream car to me ever since and still to this day. So when I found 2969 for only $8500 I thought I was getting a steal of a deal. Not quite.
