vin 11789 unusual to have this missing?

Postby Spudmurphy » Thu Mar 22, 2018 8:50 pm

Hi.
I've been spending a little time over the months working on vin 11789. I've replaced most of the fuel lines, all the vac hoses, water pipes, rad, expansion tank, and "dry fitted" everything in the engine bay. ( By that I mean no copper washers on the injector pipes or jubilee clips) I've refitted the exhaust and am about ready to try firing her up. But realised that it is missing (another) something. this ... On facebook Alistair confirmed that it should be there.

So before I lash out on a new one from Arran - does anybody have one for sale?

it's a shame because there's not a lot to it engineering wise - but I don't have the gear to make one.

Slightly off topic, but after opening three engines lately with ruined cams, I would recommend verifying that the rockers actually do spray oil onto the cam, before you start a car that has been sitting for a long time. In my case about half of them were clogged.

Well, I’m not super experienced in the PRV domain, so you should probably get a second opinion.

The initial idea with my project was to get the engine to run with only superficial overhaul, but this failed brilliantly. The extended sitting had caused multiple fatal injuries to the engine. Clogged oilways, block rot, rust on cam, valve stems and seats, and last but not least rust in the cylinders. But maybe I was just unlucky.

I shouldn’t generalize over my single experience, seek advice (and motivation...) from others. I realize this wasn’t a motivational post. :|

There are always risks when buying a non running Delorean.
There are good indications on my car, suggesting that it should start.
There's very little rust - probably because it was in an incredibly dry climate for it's first 12 years.
Then it seems to have been dry stored for the rest of it's life. so no water has got to it and no rodents have made it their home.
There are bad pointers too and they do pray on my mind .... but I'm more of a glass half full guy :-)

Optimist: Glass is half full

Pessimist: Glass is half empty

Engineer: Glass is twice the size it needs to be

I was close to getting the car roadworthy, but it ran on five cylinders only, and from that point on things went downhill pretty fast. But I hope to turn things around shortly .
