I’ve been quiet, but continuing to work on 11477.

She’s now back on the ground and I took her for a little drive to the end of the drive for a maiden voyage with the Mrs.

To date,
- calipers rebuilt / new pads
-stainless brake lines
- fuel lines cleaned through
- new fuel pump
- new exhaust heat shield
- new exhaust bracket
- Wiring to front lights reinstated
- led lights all round installed (except dipped)
- new steering gaitors (what a pain in the backside!!)
- new suspension mount bushes
- new horns

Still to do
- oil change and filter change
- gearbox oil change
- fix temp sensor
- fit fuel sender (hopefully fix fuel gauge!)
- fit fog light conversion
- fit roof box repair kit
- re fit engine cover and louvres

Getting there!!!

Quick vid of the maiden voyage....... please don’t judge my horrible use of the revs!!

So an update!! I am very near to MOT time now.

I think next Saturday I’ll finish up some small jobs and the following Saturday I think will be MOT day !!

Today I completed:

1. Fuel sender fitted - I now have a fuel gauge and fuel light working.

2. Fog light modification installed

3. New rear light boards installed

4. Engine oil and filter changed

5. Gearbox oil changed

And wow, that gearbox oil was filthy!! And I don’t think there was enough of it in there when I drained it. I managed to get just about 3 litres of gearbox oil back in.

Also, anyone else find it difficult to locate reverse?? There’s no grinding, I just seem to select 4th most times, then eventually reverse. Sometimes it goes in quickly.
It’s only in and out of the garage at the moment, so it’s not warmed up.

Perhaps when I drive it a bit with the new oil it will help?

Anyway, here’s the latest of her running after fresh oils.
And a pic of that nasty gearbox oil.

Great work Tristan! Re finding reverse - it can be as simple as gear stick alignment. Have a look under the gaiter and see if it's actually moving where it needs to.

I will take a look at that. I need to remove the gaitor to see why the rheostat won’t budge....

Cheers :)

MOT Day for 11477 !

Postby TristanC » Sat Jun 16, 2018 6:37 pm

Hey everyone!

Big day for me here today! First ever MOT for 11477.

I’ve spent the last 2 months getting her mechanically sound and placing almost weekly orders with Arran. Who, by the way, is a top chap and gets the goods shipped out in record time.

Anyway, today was the first time for her to be driven on British roads since she was shipped from Belfast in 1982 to Chicago Illinois.

My MOT station was 15 miles away.... and that concerned me, seeing as she’s never been driven for any duration.

But, I tell you, she was a dream to drive. Absolutely flawless - and in stinking pouring down rain down here in South Wales!
The wipers worked..... but I couldn’t for the life of me figure out the intermittent wipe! Lol

So, yes, she drove brilliantly, acceleration was spot on, handling was tight and gear changes were spot on too.

And to the point YES, SHE PASSED!!! With zero advisories too!
The emissions all passed too of course.

I’m over the moon - and the 15 miles drive back was an absolute treat.

I’ve just finished filling out the V55 (thanks Mike for the guide) and all ready to send off with the supporting docs on Monday.

Thanks to you all for your help. 11477 still needs some tidying, but I can tackle all that as I go......

Woo hoo!!

Tris

To disarm, flick wipers back on & allow to sweep screen once before tuning off

Thanks for the wipe info. Sometimes I got it others not. Lol
Now I know the method - cheers dude.

I’m itching to get out in her now! (oo-er)
Just got to wait a few weeks for DVLA to push papers now.

And thanks Nick and Al :)
