The time has come to do a full tare down and rebuild of my engine.. was going to eventually do this job one way or another but head gasket failure and worry over block rot issues has pushed this up the schedule..
Hopefully she ll back back on the road better than ever!
I'll try and update as often as I can
Cheers
Shane

Nice! What were your head gasket symptoms by the way?

Thanks! No not the first time I've been in there lost count how many times, doing various clean up, plugs water pumps injectors and the block rot inspecting etc over the years..

Car would overheat at idle, fans would come on but stay on and temp would rise and not come Down unless it was revved..
Whilst driving temp would be ok on the gauge but spit coolant out the overflow on the road leaving a trail especially when accelerating hard.
Whenever I Bled the rad the air would come back into it
Done a 'sniff test' and it failed that, passed all the other tests.

My thinking is the car didn't blow its gasket thru lack of coolant or overheatingt etc, more like its age related. The gasket has 37 years on it and I think its a weep that started few years ago and has now gotten big enough to be a problem...
We ll see soon enough when it's stripped down

Smell of coolant out of exhaust travelling behind not mad but noticeable and also towards the end oil in the intake manifold which was never there before :(
