As some of you are aware, since my trip into the VOD i have had some issues. The engine bay was getting damn hot (seems like the exhaust and muffler are the first things to really heat up), i was getting some popping noises at around 2500rpm and the acceleration in 2nd was lumpy unless i gunned it.
So back into the valley i went to double and triple check everything. Everything was routed correctly and i made sure i had gapped the spark plugs and torqued correctly.
Tested it out. The lumpy acceleration has pretty much next to gone but the engine bay is still getting stupid hot and then that lumpy acceleration starts to happen again. So next step was to bleed the cooling system again to which I still dont think its fully bled yet but quite a bit of air did come out. The fans cycle on/off albeit slightly higher than im used to but the temp needle doesnt go down like it used to with the fans on and a few pumps of the pedal which leads me to suspect theres still more air in there. The needle doesnt get to near to the 220 mark.
Next i wanted to set the air/fuel mixture as i cant tell if its rich or lean. I think its about right but my idle is now at 1000rpm. So i went to use a dwell meter and i got nothing from it really. Disconnected the 02 sensor and i had a reading of about 11 to 15 and it wasn't really doing much. I did get the 53 if i pressed that switch by the throttle.
So i decided that i needed to swap the 02 sensor once and for all. Well the bastard came out and the new one is in nice and tight (although its not in quite as far as the original and the washer can still be spun but its now damn tight so im leaving it as that. Its in enough as far as i can see).

So thats where im at and have yet to check the dwell and test drive. Im still getting some popping noises but its far less than before and occasional. Im wondering if maybe i have an exhaust leak perhaps im also wondering if the NGK spark plugs im using dont agree with the car. Ive been reading that some owners have problems with them. I may switch them to the bosch ones i have if the problems persist.
So yeah, bloody car. Its times like this that i wished i had just left well alone. Not only does that john delorean want fucking, i think i do too

Ive been keeping some of you up to date regarding my car. Since last post i have put in the freeflow DGo exhaust (what a sound), changed a few core plugs, changed the injectors, done the roof box bolt down, refoamed the door cards, and fitted new window motors.
I had an exhaust leak which i believe contributed to the groogy acceleration. The grog is still present with the new exhaust but its much less than before and im inclined to think the timing is slightly off (since i did change the cap and rotar). Its the only other thing i can think of as im still getting the odd pops and bang. Mike will kindly look into the timing for me if the October meet still goes ahead.
I had a leaky core plug so i had to take the exhaust headers off and decided to change all 3 on that side. No more leaks.

The exhaust is a real PITA to fit on your own. Its on, sounds great and turns more heads than usual. Its still not 100% where i would like it but it will have to do for now. Its close, just not close enough for my standards.
Roof box bolt down was kinda nervy but was a simple job in the end. Kept the torsion bars in. I just removed the struts and propped the doors open as much as possible. It worked. It was preventative maintenance and i will be doing the lower strut reinforcement soon.

Both doors now have new window motors in. Damn trysome to get them in as they are bigger than the originals. The passenger side now works flawlessly after adding a little grease to the rails and putting in a new window protector on the black rail that runs the width of the door. Driver side however still keeps derailing so i need to look into how you adjust those rails. Still, i now have both use of the windows.
New injectors all round. Simple job and i still have the originals if anyone wants them but i cant guarantee they all work as i didnt test them.
So the car is now literally going back on the road tomorrow as i just got insurance through adrian flux for 6000 miles. Just the road tax to sort, tank to fill up, lourves to put back on and another bleed of the coolant system and its ready to go for a good run/clearout. People at work really want to see it even though theyve all taken the mickey.
I also recently bought a drone so am looking forward to trying that out properly. It has a follow mode and films in real 2k. Its not the best on the market but pretty decent for a first time flyer

I forgot to mention that upon a test drive up and down my road, it feels like a new car and it also feels quicker. Work was definitely worth doing

Well youre welcome to them. I believe they are fine but cant guarantee. I believe youre attending the october meet? If so and it still goes ahead, ill bring them with me and theyre yours. Personally i would recommend buying all new ones but mine will suffice just to get things going really and help your wallet out a bit.

Hmmm I dont have a mascot....... I have a puppy who insta vommits in EVERY car he goes in with the exception of the DeLorean, which he loves but keeps hitting the window buttons with his paws....I jokingly say to my wife when we go anywhere as he is getting bigger, she will have to follow in her car as there isn't space lol.
