Cant say i would enjoy doing that in a car park which i assume was a eurotech meet

Yes it was on gravel... but we did have a marquee thing over us so wasn’t too bad...

The padding bit is fine, I had the same and it was squashed but within a couple of days sorted itself out..... I would re-use it.

Ive already ordered new ones. I thought sod it really.

Today I got the drivers side dismantled.
Both hub bearings have now been changed, anti roll bar has been dropped off for sand blasting and powder coating and the 1st coat of paint has been applied to the spax shocks and upper control arms. A few little spots of the chassis has had the por15 treatment too.

No seized or corroded bolts again. So the dismantling phase has been pretty straight forward. Yay!

Really cant wait to reap the rewards and see how much better the ride is after all this

Ive also listed the LCAs, springs and shocks for sale on facebook (not that i can see anyone wanting the shocks mind). The LCAs will come with new bushes, plates to box them up, british LBJs and collars.

A list of things Ive done to the car (in no particular order) since I bought it 2 years ago. Ive probably missed a couple of things too but off the top of my head...

Fixed passenger mirror motor,
Changed the side mirrors,
New gear shift boot,
Fan over ride switch,
Rear fog light mod,
New rear tail light boards,
Added retrosound radio and used the craig faceplate,
New front speakers,
LEDs pretty much everywhere otherwise new lamps with added sidelight LEDs to the inner headlights,
Refurbed the HVAC mode select switch,
New struts all round,
New battery,
New rotor arm and cap,
New HT leads,
New spark plugs (NGKs),
New injectors complete with seals and clips,
New banjo bolts,
New valley heater pipe,
New heater valve,
Half of the coolant hoses changed,
New core plugs,
New starter,
New alternator (with brown wire reinstated),
Stainless heatshielding,
Freeflow exhaust,
All fuel lines swapped to SS braided ones,
New water pump,
New starter coil,
New accumulator,
New filters (air, oil and fuel),
New oil and coolant,
New fuel pump and boots, in-tank filter and hoses (tank cleaned too),
Cleaned the fuel sender but will replace once I get the Mckeen fuel gauge ECU (already have a replacement sender),
New window motors,
Refoamed the door cards,
Roofbox bolted down,
New headliners,
New crankshaft pulley seal (reinz) with new nut also,
New brake master (50:50),
New clutch slave,
New clutch line (SS braided),
New clutch reservoir hose,
Rebuilt all 4 callipers with new pins, pistons and pads etc,
New rotars,
New brake flex lines,
All circuit breakers, relays and fuses updated,
Trailing arm bolts (Inconel) and radius bushings changed for NOS,
Ali lower control arms,
British lower ball joints,
Lowered springs with new spring isolators,
New tie rods,
Sway bar powdercoated and poly bushings added,
Spax shocks,
Front hub bearings swapped for SKF ones with new retaining circlips,
Washer bottle repaired (kinda) with new washer motar and seal,
NOS Wiper stalk,
Coin tray replaced with Dgo (James') cup holder,
New tyres all round,
Switch mattaligner,
Silicone vac lines,
New inertia switch,
Headlight stainless 'L' brackets with ribbed finisher,
Stainless has had a good seeing to from Chris N so thats flawless with a full regrain to finish.


Still to do:

Weather stripping all round,
Steering wheel, binnacle, dash and seats to be recovered,
Wide stripe,
Side scoops (or delorean parachutes as Ive been told recently),
Lower strut reinforcement brackets,
Hood side trim pieces and seal/weather strip,
New rear speakers,
Other half of the coolant hoses to be swapped,
New radiator and condenser,
Aircon to be completly overhauled,
HVAC box refurbed,
Fascias and wheels to be repainted,
Steering rack refurbed,
Motorola alternator refurbed/rebuilt,
Rear hub bearings (also to be upgraded to SKF),
New passenger side center coolant pipe,
CV joints refurb,
Crank seal (transmission end),
New clutch kit,
New handbrake cables,
Tower brace (in the mail working its way from the states),
And anything else the car decides its had enough of in the mean time or Ive forgotten...

And so the front suspension area has now been completed. Front end has been lowered and has also been upgraded. New bushes, new ali control arm with reinforcement brackets, lowered springs and sway bar powder coated with new poly bushes too. The car is spoilt.

As jobs go on a delorean, this actually wasnt too bad. Ive done what would appear to be simpler jobs before that are far worse. So a very welcome change. I did have an issue with one of the hub bearings but I won in the end (the car will fight back where it can). No clunks or pings either andbthe steering wheel has stopped vibrating. Yay!

Last pics show the ride height before and after. Everything still needs to settle but am full of victory grins currently. On to the next job...

Wow. Its been a year since i posted in this thread.
Update time.

Ive pretty much spent the past year just driving the car. I wouldnt say a lot of work has been done or needed to be done really compared to previous years.

A simple job done adding the shock tower brace. Some people claim its a placebo effect but I do believe its made some difference to the handling. The car sticks to the road more in heavier cornering and reduces some understeer. It feels like some of the bodyroll has been reduced too but i cant be sure of that.

CV joints have been rebuilt. I started developing a ticking noise so ordered a kit from Dgo. Took a few hours and was a messy job but a satisfying one none the less.

Ive sorted the fuel pressure so thats up to spec.

The biggest job done was at the last tec meet in march. The car was fitted with a new clutch.... in a hotel car park!
Massive thanks to both Dan S and Mec for all the help with this. I couldnt have done it without them. I turn up on the Friday about 4pm and by 6:30pm, the transmission box, flywheel and clutch was all out. The following day saw it all go back in with a new clutch, machined flywheel and alot of cleaning. The slave needed bleeding and the car made it to arbuckles. The whole job took around 6hrs to complete. Absolutely amazing and goes to show what a fantastic club this is. Car drives wonderfully and feels like new.

So there we have it. Ive been driving it often and loving every minute of it. The next job I plan to tackle is the interior. New seat covers, dash, glovebox lid, binnacle and knee pads along with new trim on the steering wheel.
