Cheers Kenny - tell me about it. There's a fair pile of scrap parts from it living in my attic now :)

Looking amazing!

When did you first pull the engine? How long has it taken you to get to this stage?

June 2017. Flipping ages ago now

Combination of family life, mechanic with busy schedule, time spent trying to fix the old stuff before admitting defeat etc.

Top tip - just buy a good running engine and fire that in over a weekend.

That looks brilliant. Top work.

I am interested in that block. You say it has a different oil pump? Whats the difference? I was aware that some of the later blocks used on the B280 engine could be used to build a B28 and they also have a different oil pump but you have to use the B280 liners as well with them. Did your original liners fit into the new block?

Being apart since 2017 isn't too bad, I took mine apart back in 2015 and its still in bits  I threw in a renault 2.7 engine in the end just so I could actually use the car but still want to get my 2.8 built up.

I'm not sure what's different about the oil pump (maybe slightly larger?) but I just ensured we used the one that came with the block. The oil filter is slightly different, and the standard delorean oil pressure sensor won't fit. Waiting on another one coming.

Other than that, everything else delorean went onto it!

Yea saw your 2.7, nice job. I'd nearly leave it there if it worked well!

I found a 2.7 block for sale that's been sitting on a shelf for 30 years. But to take the 2.8stuff they need a lot of machining and it wasn't worth the hassle. It was corrosion free tho.

Bit manky, but solid. The delivery company dropped the parcel for good measure, breaking off a waterpump mounting attachment. 180 pounds later, that was welded back on with the face machined down...

Then had that blasted

have your engine parts been masked before vapour blasting? like oil galleries, bearing surfaces..

Vapour blasting is non-aggressive to the metal so the likes of bearing surfaces were not covered. It does leave behind a mess though. Every plug was removed from the block before being thoroughly washed several times.

Just a wee update to this - engine has been refitted and I'm putting a few miles on it every so often to see what's going to break. Thankfully no fires yet but there have been a few headaches along the way - big one was the head gaskets - the cheap set on dgo leaked immediately, so pulled the heads off and fitted the quality ones they sell (the difference between the two is staggering)

Oh, also decided to try a Weber 38 after finding a carb manifold. Engine pulls very well and it makes a lovely induction noise. I now use a manual fuel pump bolted to the passenger cylinder head, and the engine wiring loom has been reduced drastically.

Drive seals are proving to be a pain to seal up on the gearbox, so have to look at that again but so far very happy with it - will keep putting on the miles. For the first time in nearly 20 years of dmc ownership, I don't have to top up the coolant every 3 minutes

LOOKS. MINT.

Awesome love it, carb n all. Makes it super neat.

I hear you on cheap gaskets... never. There's just too much work/ mess/ time not to always try to get the best.

Cheers!
