Andy , interesting stuff, and I know you talked to me about this before. Let me ask you a question,- if you applied your brakes as hard as you could on a dry tarmac road, would your tyres screech and lay down some rubber?

60 quid the lot, cant go wrong.....Quite amazed how many classic car bodies/parts were at that place getting done, it must have an excellent reputation and is hidden away just down the road.

Some of me is tempted to choose the same yellow as the SPAX are in for the chassis but I am still not convinced I could cope with the laughter.

So onwards and upwards,

One DGO order later, my trailing arm bolts turned up.



Bushes seem fine so a straight swap but look how bent one is...Amazing...

Some updates from Alex, Steel is ordered and if you remember this picture which shows the rot just beginning at the bottom of the box section. Well if you recall I was debating, chassis off or lash with waxoil before biting the bullet.



Well on the inside this is what it looks like with the welded plate removed (its upside down so the top tatty bit below is the bottom of the previous pic)



If you recall this was the plate welded on between the front cross member.



and this is what was under it, you can really see a piss poor design from an allowing the water to drain perspective.



So Alex is really getting to grips with it and taking it back to good metal and has ordered the rest.



I also splashed out on new fuel hoses as its not worth the risk as they are the originals. Interestingly the accumulator hoses were original and looked ok, all the black had perished but the inner hose was still tough. However therein lies the problem, as I pulled and yanked with pliers to get it off the fitting it actually snapped as it was that old and tough and brittle.

I reckon someone welded that checker plate on to the chassis to give a more ridged jacking point under the car. I’m sure we can all relate to wanting one of those in the middle of the car, front and back. I don’t think it was added to repair the rusted area because of the rust as that would have been mostly hidden by the epoxy most likely. They all rust in this area. A few years ago when I was dealing with my front section, I was tempted to cut open that central area to make it accessible to cleaning up etc. I resisted of course, and instead just tried to add stuff as a protective measure to delay the need for it being repaired properly.

Mmmm not sure about that theory, I'm not sure anyone would weld a plate on inviting rust to an area quicker just for a jacking point, I would say its more than likely rust related in the 1st place, just my opinion of course

All righty onto the Fuel hoses, a new set ordered.

Pa Pow, I cant stress what a joy this was doing sat on a chair with the engine in front of me. A bit of guesswork with the sizes but I just compared old for new

Even managed to get some of the injector clips sorted which I forgot I had ordered to replace some of the really knackered ones.

Still waiting for the steel but some lovely pics of the prep work from Alex prior to welding a new plate on the bottom of the bone shaped cross section.





It really does show it will be coming back as good as new vs welding plates over the crap or cutting out panels and re-welding in.
