It might be worth taking the blanking plate of the timing cover and seeing what state the chains are in.
It’s almost like the car was in a flood? Or exposed to water for a long time but no air to dry it out judging from some photos I have seen.

There is likely all sorts of crud in and around the liners which you can’t get to without a full tear down which based on what I can see is the way I would be approaching it.

What is that in the 2nd picture?

Will look for a 35mm something. The second picture is one of the bores

The arrowed part is the blanking plate that A Van is talking about.

I would agree with A Van in looking at pulling the whole engine and stripping it down. I would also hazard a guess that the transmission will need the same process :-?

Thank you. I am expecting to have to pull it all apart. Just getting familiar with the car. Chassis inspection will be the main thing to be done as that will drive the plan of attack

There is a bloke somewhere near Hastings that will do it I’ve heard, if you’re struggling.

Ive driven in torrential rain a couple times now and the car has been fine. My advice is to try and focus more on the bigger things. Its easy to get side tracked on the smaller details.
Myself, this is what i do but if i have trouble with something, i will do a smaller job just to feel that victory feeling. I (like every owner) struggled with the accumulator (its a real bitch of a job), so to feel like I had a win, i changed the gear stick boot.

Basically you have to drill out the old rivets. The garden hose slips over the torsion bar which should protect it if you have a slip. Part of the rivet inside will fall into the door. Apparently it will rattle for same time in an inaccessible part of the door but will eventually work its way out of a drain hole. You then remove the old rubber, glue the new one in place and rivet back on the door. Im looking into sheet screws so if i had to change them again (which isnt likely) then no drilling is required.

Whatever job you do, take your time and dont rush. Its worked very well for me. Anything youre not sure about ask here. Guaranteed we've already done that job and have some tips or tricks, actually even if you're sure sometimes it can pay to ask anyway.

Regarding arran... hes damn quick. Its like you get your order before youve even ordered it. Make a list (there is a wishlist option on the DGo site) and order what you can when you can. Dont expect that list to shorten though. It grows. Just as you think youre making a dent, more gets added. Feels like it will never end.

Here is a picture of arran with all our delorean money

I think Chris M (Rissy) figured out a way to use screws instead of rivets
And knowing him he has probably noted what type etc

So another fine bank holiday. Most of the Engine bores are still full Or part full of WD40 (some has run out through an exhaust underneath or into the sump)

Thought I would finish the fuel tank inspection.
Had to drill out all the screws and to be honest I am quite pleased with what I have found With the pump and tank in general, after sinking myself up to my arm pits in stinky varnish!

Here you go

All too familiar, a very common sight......

Top job and good work. Get it syphoned out and a load of rags in there to clean it up... But before you go dislocating your elbows for this and other jobs, if you are going the whole hog and lifting the tub off the chassis and engine out, a lot of these jobs suddenly get a lot easier.

How is the Chassis looking ?
