And also I would unbolt the seats and get them indoors it’s a lot easier to work on the items you will be addressing with the seats out

Started down the headlining route, first hurdle are the sun visors! Think they have taken the brunt of water, screw heads turning to dust and the actual visor And metal bars are a mess. Will spray the seat bolts again tomorrow and give them a try too.

eric wrote:Certainly an interesting one......It doesn't look too bad but so many things have rust which wouldn't usually have so much rust. The Chassis doesn't look too bad at all.

It really is as if its been wet and not dried out and flash rust has touched many elements.

Wasn't there something odd with the speedo ? last few digits unreadable, I initially thought there may be water damage in there ?

You mean my very low mileage! Not sure where the digits went!

Darren - do you know what the history on this car is - when it was last run, where it was stored during its non-running period etc? Quite a project you've got there!

Looks like a bit of foam has got back there blocking the last two digits, you'll need to take the binnacle apart to fish it out. It's sat at a little under 67k miles.

Agreed, I think (quite apart from anything else), its a good idea to get the "soft furnishings" out at this point before they get sodden. With the seats out you can remove all the carpets etc and get down to the plastic tub. Also a chance to clean stuff up and see if its re-usable. You'll liek be inside the doors, so all that can come off till you see what you're working with.

The headliner and trim panels all come away fairly easily, but yes, the sun-visors may need you to be creative!

Good luck!

It’s really odd. The car was sold and lived in California With two owners through 2006 up to 66,224 miles. A 26 year old bought it then and tooK it cross country to not so sunny Connecticut! He moved the car three times since then within the state according to the registration records before he sold it to BHCC with circa 66,824 miles.

The last location on the title Has a garage and plenty of room around it according to google Maps so not sure why it’s got so wet / surface corrosion.

I suspect it had winter outside as the rear of the engine / transmission casings are white. Although no sign of water in the fluids of engine and auto trans. Planning to hand turn the motor tomorrow !

Ahh thats a real bummer mate, I really had my fingers crossed for you.

Just looked up Carcoons, quite amazingly cheap, I paid 1/2 that for a good external cover. I may be tempted for one of them to stop the flaming cat/birds.

Positive review of Carcoon, I thought it may be flaming it initially but it beats the garage.
