Postby Darrenre » Tue Aug 11, 2020 9:57 am

Morning all
Another major milestone for me as I just had the email from the shippers to advise my project car is due to arrive early next week from LA.
Forms to fill in now ahead of it being delivered to sunny Cheshire in a couple of weeks time.

Then the real fun will start!

Please see below documentation required in order for us to clear the vehicle through UK customs; -

Historical Vehicle Declaration – Allowing us to clear at the historical rate of V.A.T @ 5%.
Declaration of Personal Import.
Individual Authorisation to declare goods to Tariff Heading 9705000090
Please confirm the US charges/insurance/oceanfreight. This has to be included on the customs entry.

Oo nice this will be a good winter project for you.

Sunny Cheshire, where are you based ? It will be good to have another one around here.

Awesome stuff. Another one that can join the exclusive Beverley hills car club club :D

Do you have an idea of what sort of work is needed? From the one picture, the car looks pretty good.

I bought mine from them and it was a non runner. Took me a few months before i even attempted to fire the car up.

EDIT:

I found the listing for that car. Eek! Theres a lot of rust and no idea what all that muck may be hiding on the frame. Hope you know what youre potentially letting yourself in for. You are a braver man than I. That car will need some serious work.

Thats always a massive help. This forum and the facebook restoration and tech help groups are helpful too.

My advice to begin with is dont try to start the car till youve gone through the whole fuel system. Clean the tank out, change all those fuel lines etc (they look like theyre original anyway).

Yes I am planning to start with the fuel system, as soon as I confirm it turns over (Eeeek)

I have my full technical tool kit and fault finding guide waiting in the garage too!

Hahahaha! I should get one of those.

I hate to say this but fully expect it not to turn. I noticed bhcc didnt say it was mechanically sound in the listing

Still half the fun is the journey. We are all here to help as best we can and working on a delorean is, in theory, rather easy as its mostly just nuts and bolts. But the car is known to throw a few tantrums

It is nice to have a group of enthusiasts to bounce questions off as well as learn from. I am expecting it to be a major project but I can work at it at my own pace and spending limits. I do think I would still be looking for the Pot of gold rather than sitting here awaiting its arrival now if I hadn’t bit the bullet. Prices still appear on the up and at least I now have a line in the sand!

Getting one is the hard part. Yes take your time and at the end of it, youll know the car very well.

The advice i was given was sort out the mechanical first and worry about the cosmetic last. It may look like crap but at least you can enjoy it. Better to be able to drive the car than have a very nice garden ornament.
Mine isnt exactly the best example but tbh, people dont seem to care. Theyre just happy to see one and ive had some fun with her.

Whilst we all hate our cars at some point, in the end we still love them. Hopefully the october meet will go ahead. You can learn so much on one of those weekends.
