Fresh as a daisy… well, as fresh as a big chunk of mild steel can be !

Took a dive into the storage cabinets to gather all the bits needed to reassemble the front and rear suspension.

Ended up with quite a lovely pile of parts… it’s basically automotive LEGO for grown-ups!

I also realized I completely forgot to document the restoration of the big chunky parts.

A bit blurry, sorry

The parts were blasted, powder coated, and baked in the oven.
I used a little powder coating gun from Electrostatic Magic to apply the powder, and a regular kitchen oven for the baking part.

The longest part is blasting the pieces, and the trickiest bit is hanging them in the oven so they don’t end up with marks.

I built some welded supports for the heavier parts — a bit over-engineered, I’ll admit, but at least they were rock solid.

What colour did you go with the chassis?
Did you have much welding/ repairs to it ?

Thanks !
I asked for RAL 7005, it was the closest color in the RAL palette.

The most rusted area was where the fuel tank closing plate sits, with some light surface rust.
The grooves in the sheet metal, which are supposed to let water drain, were clogged with dirt, so water had accumulated there. It was rusty over a few millimetres.
There’s also a tiny bit of rust inside some closed sections of the chassis, but nothing serious.

When I bought the car, I was expecting damaged body panels (wasn’t disappointed!) because of the paint, but the chassis looked solid in the photos. So no surprises on that side (only on that side, actually).

keep an eye on the Avo's red bushings as they have a high failure rate!

Interesting, I've had Avo's on my car on all 4 corners for over 16yrs (only done about 14k miles in that time admittedly), and they've never failed on me.

Hi,
Fitting the front and rear axle bearings using liquid nitrogen (−196 °C / -320 °F).

Safety first :-)
