Culloden Hotel Belfast

14th Sept 1982, Eric Cairns was the auctioneer and Rob Lamrock was in attendance.

12 cars sold, the first and last to the same person.

The story goes that there were two transporters with six cars on each heading to the docks, when news broke that factory was in trouble..the lorries were told to turn around and head back to the depot as the owners realised they were owed a lot of money etc.

After some legal wrangling etc they were allowed to sell them to recover the money hence the auction.

Ernie Hewitt also sprayed Cyril Hinds car green after the red one was sprayed, Cyril's car is also a Culloden car, see this article below for more info on the car I used to own which mentions the sprayer.

But also he sprayed a DeLorean cream!! around the same time...dont think anyone knows where that one is!

Sadly around 2 yrs ago it was stripped back to stainless...:(

Thanks for the info all of you.

I will find the vin in the engine bay, the red painted car didnt have the front bumper painted. I was told they painted them because the owners didnt like the fingerprints on the steel. I was alos informed they painted them to hide damaged panels. I havelooked over the car and cant find any filler or repairs - so lets hope it was painted for the look. I have no idea what shade of red it is though.

The factory auction was held at the factory Thursday 24th May 1984 by auctioneers Henry Butcher of High Holborn London.

I don't think damage is a possibility in your case. It was painted from new(ish) I would guess, and from the quality that you describe it was probably done when new.
Do you mean your car didn't have a red bumper initially? If so - how come it's red now? Or do you mean Alistair's (in the article above)?

From the VIN - this looks more likely to be a Culloden one - very close to your old one too.....

I meant Alistairs above. The bumper on mine has always been red, however there is a little slight crazing in the paintwork as its painted on plastic instead of stainless.
With regaird the interior - i havent even cleaned it yet - that is how it came out after 18 years. The door struts need replacing - just ordered a pair through this excellent site.

We only got the car out of storage just before christmas, a quick wash and that is what you see now, wait till we polish it.
