Well you would think so.

At the end of the day just looking for facts. Like you, Im certainly not trying to 'diss' anyones car or claims here.

Just be good once and for all to see this written down.

Martin can you help here?

Agreed Mike, there is a lot of I believe unintentional murkiness with some aspects of DeLorean history, its certainly nice to get things out and actually confirm what did happen.

 here we go again :D

Chris Parnham is of course the authority on this stuff, but the 3 cars converted at Dunmurry are the AXI cars and were done by a few of the senior workforce who remained when the factory had been closed by the receivers. It is for this reason that a large part of the original workforce have no idea that they even exist. But they do, and Chrispy has owned one of them, Nigel has this one (he only very recently restored the AXI 1697 plate) and a third is rotting away in a garage somewhere which Chrispy tried to rescue but they wouldn't budge on the price he offered.

Nigel's is a very interesting car, and is the most "finished" of all the right handers, even down to the lower windscreen grill. He has an original european high compression engine, 3.8:1 final drive, custom free-flow exhaust, convex mirrors with correct right-hand offset - all FACTORY ORIGINAL.

When people talk about the "euro spec cars" this one really is the original UK spec as it was to have been the 1982 London Motor Show car.

Most of the Wooler Hodec cars are vinned May 81 and have a pecular vin number beginning 121xx

Lol... well thats the most ive ever seen written down about them Martin :)

So it was a few of the senior workforce that remained after the factory was closed by the recievers, who then fully converted 3 left hand drives into right hand drive cars ?

Any idea why they would want to do all this and with what parts did they use?

Do you actually know who these people were matey?

Thanks for the help so far Martin, interesting stuff.

Some of my facts might be a bit skewed but there definitely is this belief that they don't exist because of *when* they were done.

If you think about it, converting a DeLorean to right hand drive would be pretty straightforward if you had access to all the conversion parts, and they certainly did because the cars have a lot in common with the Wooler Hodec cars. I can't imagine Wooler Hodec making their own steering racks for example - no, they'd have asked DMC to get a pile made by their supplier. Ditto wiper arms, pedal boxes etc. It makes sense to me that RHD conversion parts would be sitting on the shelves at the factory.

Barrie Wills is the man who knows the most about Nigel's car in particular. I'll kick off a new thread in the correct place as it's a very interesting story and worth having in the "archive".

If only there were primary source evidence like "photographs" with matching film of any person working on them. This would instantly clarify this rather than here-say/ confusion of events.

I agree it would definately make a good story too and would deserve its own thread !!!!!! :D
