Well this one probably isn't the car's fault to be honest. Swapped over the dizzy cap and rotor arm last night but then the car wouldn't start and it was too dark to be bothered digging around looking for loose vacuum hoses. So I'm hoping when I get a chance on Thursday to actually have a dig that I'll find something stupid hanging out that shouldn't be...

Of course when I don't it'll be time to start pulling my hair out...

Fixed - it was the small electrical plug that goes into the LHS of the water pump! Thanks to TT for telling me where this little plug I've never seen before was supposed to go! Car seems to be running better now too with the original coil and new dizzy cap/rotor arm - how much of it is in my head I don't know (had enough false dawns before :) ). Will find out when I get it on the garage's emissions machine this week.

Jez, that is the thermo-time switch and operates the cold start valve when the engine is cold...

Thanks Nick, I was wondering what the thermo-time switch actually was! You really do learn something new every day :D
