I wouldn't say that there was anything wierd about the hood necessarily. The "De Lorean" badge on it was not standard for the VIN, and nor was the flat hood (I think?) - so, yes quite possibly the hood has been replaced - which could just be a case of replacing the old one due to minor damage. This is what a "new" hood looks like.
Whether or not there is actually a gas flap in it I can't tell from that photo - it could just be a reflection. Or if it is there then it is a fairly common modification now to cut a flap in any hood. It makes filling up a lot easier!

This car has just dissapeared from Carandclassic.com in the last few days...
...because me and my father bought it last week
I know many of you had questions about this car, so I shall try to answer some. The bonnet is a lined and gas-flap hood, however it also has the later badge on it as well.
The body is about 90% perfect apart from a few minor dings and a very small crack in the roof. The engine runs great although it needs a tune-up and the air con unit needs to be re-fitted.
The interior is where the majority of attention is required however. Although we were given the parts, the headlinings are not on at the moment and the seats need re-upholstering, along with a decent spring clean.
Just thought I'd let you know, but heres some pics also:

Nice one for buying a DMC! Quick question-whats the big black band on the windscreen below the wipers all about? I think that would seriously restrict your forward vision for driving/parking!
