Hi all,
I have a project car which I bought a few years ago which I am thinking of selling.
It is a painted black DMC, with auto trans. Needs: Chassis Rust repaired (needs frame off), full paint job or strip back to stainess, currently not running (but engine turns), would need the usual fuel, brake, etc rebuild. Typical non-running project car. It was not parked up due to engine/transmission problems - the reason it was taken off the road was for a brake rebuild, which never happened (previous owner).
The original fuse box is damaged, and has been bypassed - most fuses are contained in a secondary fuse box (in the same area).
I've started stripping the paint off it, and have found that the original grain is intact below. The topcoat comes off really easily, but the primer is harder to remove so far. I'm considering removing all the paint via sodablasting, which will cost around 700 euros (and will be added to the price if I do that). Or, I may experiment with some other paint strippers.
The car was painted in the 80's in the US, and the body is very straight. I've a feeling it was painted for looks rather than to hide damage, yet until I strip the paint I really don't know. The black paint is not in good condition, so I figured even if the car was going to be repainted it would be better to remove the old paint first, especially to find out if there is any stainless damage.
The biggest problem with the car in my opinion is chassis rust - it definitely needs a frame off. I can sell it as it is for 8500 GBP, or I can sell it including a spare auto chassis I have, which is fully restored galvanised/powdercoated for 11,500 pounds - you get to keep the original rusty chassis as a spare which can be fixed and sold on again!
Interior - dash is perfect but binnacle is cracked (black leather). Seats are only ok - have a tear in the passenger shoulder and drivers seat bottom is worn. The carpets are in great shape. Front and rear bumpers are in great shape, no warpage or shrinkage, and all the glass, lights, etc are very good.
The car has UK plates, and has UK spec lights and foglight fitted. It comes with some documentation - old MOT's etc.
Any questions, please let me know!
Thanks,
John
PS - some pics attached below from when I bought it - it is basically the same except the paint is being stripped. I'll get any updated close up pics for anyone if needed.
Last pic shows one of the restored chassis's I have which is also for sale.
