If I said "No idea to who it was sold" then that would definitely be wrong, but by jumbling up the words there is a possibility that I could get away with dropping the "m" - not sure.

The word whom is used in all cases where it designates the target of the verb and not the actor. Therefore: who loves you? And: Whom do you love?

Come to think of it: the same rule applies to 'she' vs. 'her'. As in she loves me and i love her.
