OK - well it says "Des Maguire" on the plate lol.

Judging from the tax disc it is 2003, but has some kind of futuristic device suckered onto the inside of the windscreen. What is with the wipers? interior?! The strange patchy laqueur all over it? It is painted?
And what's the thing on the top of the windscreen? Aerial mount?

think Dave said it was a tinted lacquer..purple maybe , in fact DMC where playing with that concept...James Espey was telling me about it, think he even had a test finder and some paper work on it.

Those rear lights that Castle put on (?) are absolutely horrid. They would be the first things I'd bin (among other bits like the pedals and chrome wipers etc)

Yes - the last 5 digits on the vin plate are what identifies the car - in your case it is (EDITED) 00522. The production run started at around 00500, so this is a very early car, out of the approx. 9000 that were built.

VIN 769 was originally sold in the States in September of 1981 through a dealer in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Interestingly, factory records indicate the car was built as an automatic, not a manual like it is now. Original engine number was 000454.

As far as the paint/tint goes, a tinted clearcoat was under consideration by DMC, but all that development was done here in the States by the US arm of the company. There are no indications that a complete car was ever done with the tinted clearcoat though we have a couple test painted panels, one with a red tinted clearcoat. There *were* three car completely painted in solid colors - red, yellow and black - but these cars have not yet been located.

There's not many RHD's about, so they become well known, but there has been a slight mistype - it's VIN 00679 - EDIT NO IT IS 000522 ! - although hopefully you can verify that!
