DELOREAN WANTED!

Postby steve852 » Mon Jun 27, 2011 2:03 pm

Hey all,

Had a GREAT time at EuroTec this year - thoroughly enjoyed it, cheers :)

Anyways I've now formally come to the decision to get a DeLorean. I ain't got the cash so I've decided to go all out, sell my house and rent a place with a bigger garage, then get a loan to cover the amount. At the moment I got around £5k banked, so gonna need to take a loan for £10k - £15k I reckon. Given myself the goal of getting one before EuroTec next year (which I prebooked already), so... where do I start? Anyone any suggestions on how to find a good car? Here are the particulars of what I'm after:

Grey interior
Manual gearbox
2nd generation bonnet (with groves and hidden petrol cap)
Decent - good condition as I'm no mechanic (yet!)

I've been told the pros and cons of shipping in from the US and, to be honest, I'd probably prefer buying from the UK, although I'd reconsider if the right circumstances arose. Any ideas/recommendations appreciated :)

Cheers,
Steve

There is no match in the UK as yet..... You will generally find it cheaper to import, but there is an element of risk of course!

No worries Arran, was a great event, good job organising it :)

Any good places to look when shopping in the US? How often do new cars normally pop up for sale on the UK circuit?
Cheers,
Steve Tucker

I bought mine from dmctalk.org forum. There is the spec you want for sale there at the minute but it will require chassis work at least which is not for the faint hearted

Well, they are all listed here: viewforum.php?f=56
Looks to me like a handful each year.

Currently the only viable LHD for sale in the UK is this one viewtopic.php?f=56&t=708 - although there has got to be a reason why it's been on the market for over 18 months. Plus it's an auto.

The only other LHD for sale in the UK is this one: viewtopic.php?f=56&t=2372 - but it's an accident damaged auto and as I understand will need several thousand spending on it just to get it up to an acceptable standard.

You'll find Tom's car listed on another website (from the previous owner) at £16500, but given that he bought that car in October I don't think that website gets updated any more. It isn't for sale!

And I'm not sure if this one is for sale or not? viewtopic.php?f=56&t=1870 / viewtopic.php?f=56&t=2144 - although will need similar money spending on it to the "LPG" car mentioned above. Chris Nicholson could sort that out though! However, it is also an auto.......

Cheers, tbh the gearbox is my least important preference so I may well go with an automatic anyway. I had a spin in James' and it was a very smooth ride!

That auto for sale in Surrey is definitely worth a closer look.

Hey Mike, yeah that would be great mate. From the little I can see on the photos its a good looking car. The price is a little on the heavy side of my planned budget, but any opinion you have on it would be fab :)
