But there are many at the moment. Not suggesting it will last forever, but it's the situation currently (for working, MOTd UK manuals).

A Van wrote:Gez if you read my post, I stated that cars circa 17k are now at circa 20k

The one car that springs to mind that just went for £24k was bought for about £15k about 6(?) years ago. I have no data on the other high value ones, but clearly that's better than buying a house.

You, me, and countless others (savetheclocktower as an example) are more than happy to wait a while for a cheap US one and take the (calculated) import risk, and do it up. BUT there are also plenty of other people who just want a trusted, UK, MOTd car - right now. And these people have a higher budget than a year or two ago.

I think it's quite funny to look at the subtext here...

A ex (but potentially future) owner talking down the values...

and a current owner talking them up. :D

But however you look at it we're all agreed UK based cars are selling for a bit more than they were a few years ago.

It does make sense that UK registered & MOTd cars should carry a premium - they carry less risk, and take significantly less time than importing one. And time & risk = money.

Ah but Gez... you missed a point.

As an ex owner and possible future owner, the values in the UK have no bearing on me!

I would source my next car from the US regardless.

It does seem all UK cars going around the 20k mark. I enquired about a few now. In the end I have gone down the import route but I can see the appeal of not having to wait. But not taking the risk and buying UK does mean you pay more.

Its ok for you Al you know what you are buying and looking for :)

There are cheap cars in the US but the question is why are they cheap and why don't they sell over there ?

I can think of a couple of imports that ended up being 'pigs' ... obviously I wont say on here where they are now ..

The reason why cars are cheaper in the U.S, is because they realised years ago, long before us that they were crap!!

Anyone on Facebook?

There is a page called Deloreansforsale which has regular updates of cars for sale in the US.

Interestingly, there are several people on DMCTalk that think this FB page is driving up the cost of the cars, or at least reducing the odds of finding a bargain because of the increased publicity.

Which is somewhat ironic as the guy running that page wishes to be an owner one day and may be involuntarily pricing himself out of the market.

Btw, which car is "the auction car" that you are referring to above? Surely they are all eBay cars?

What's it might sell for doesn't concern me until I want it to sell it! I know it definitely won't depreciate though, unless it has 'issues' lol
