Good cars are in demand now ..
Prices have been too cheap for too long ..

I'm assuming the buyer didn't pay that just for fun? Someone else would have had to have bid £28.5k at least, so there are at least two of them?!
I didn't say £25k was an average, just that it, or close to it, is a relatively normal asking price at present, given the shortage of running, UK, good, cars - and the higher than "usual" demand. Particularly for manuals it seems. The one that has just sold for £24k is a "normal" car in my opinion. No galvanising or turbocharging, just a good quality standard(ish) car.
Based on these sales and the relative "frenzy" over your old car, it seems clear people are looking for quality UK (manual) cars that actually work - and are willing to pay for that privilege.
Yes you "can" import for cheaper, but you "could" end up spending thousands more that you have budgeted getting it up to "UK standard". It's a gamble in some cases. These cars have trusted UK history.
You'd be confident in what you're doing with a car that may or may not need a couple of things to it - but there are people though who'd rather just have an MOTd car, and they are willing to pay for it.
