If you carry some spares and treat them like a princess, are they okay for long journeys? Say to Spain and back?

The engines can really suffer from lack of use, which makes a higher mileage car a better buy. Not that 30k miles is high given it's age.

Long journeys are not an issue.

I can echo the sentiments here... if you plan to do a run to Spain you need to have your sights set on a regular driver that's sorted...turn the key and go anywhere.

When first got my car from the states it had 26k on the clock... was allegedly a kept vehicle.
Within a few hundred miles of driving the brake master cylinder packed in, clutch cylinders , fuel pump , plug leads causing misfire& brakes sticking...
Years later the car is driven regularly and is fully sorted ..... I can honestly say I trust it to take me anywhere

a low mileage one personally I wouldn't trust for a Spanish run .... a sorted regular driver all day long

Isn't that what this car is? Replacing struts, springs and window motors isn't a big job by any means, and left as it is doesn't stop your enjoyment of the car. Struts in particular is a 1 minute job that anyone can do. This car has already had a ton of fuel injection work done on it already. Finding a car that is "perfect", needing nothing doing to it is hard enough itself, but expect to pay at least £10k more for a perfect car.

Worth bearing in mind that DeLoreans aren't necessarily like the rest of the classic car market. A sorted 10k car will command no premium over a sorted 30k car or even a sorted 50k car.

In fact I'd argue the lower mileage car would be less desirable, as on that few miles (and that few since sorting/restoration) you'd have no idea what could still go pop on you. Only reason I can think of for wanting the 10k car is if it was largely original and you wanted to do concours. But then by definition, it wouldn't be sorted...

Basically buy the best car you can afford - mileage is irrelevant. Condition is everything.

Does such a car even exist?! Pretty much every car in the country needs something doing to it doesn't it?!

Another one here to attest to the reliability of these cars. Even when i've had issues with my engine, i've still never been left stranded. It's always got me to where i'm headed. As for long journey's, I drive the length of the UK twice a year most years, and i've always found the car comfortable and reliable for those long hours spent at the wheel on motorways.
