Wanted - Delorean DMC12 project car - ideally UK located.

Postby Poze123 » Tue Sep 25, 2018 12:04 am

Hi all

I want to purchase a DeLorean project car, anything considered sub £20,000.

Very keen to buy and I have the money / wife approvals.

Please do get in touch, I am not a time waster and will make a quick purchase if the car/location is suitable.

Many thanks,
Paul

Hi Paul,

As I mentioned on your Facebook post, given your budget you are best off looking for a car stateside and shipping one over. It's not as daunting a prospect as it may sound, many of us have done it over the years and will be able to offer advice where needed. There is also a section on the forum dedicated to documenting the import process: viewforum.php?f=148

If you would like to get a look round some cars, we are having a club meet later this month in Norfolk. Details in this topic if you are interested in attending: viewtopic.php?f=32&t=5902

Good luck with your search.

Why not go for a mid 25K that needs less work - bits and pieces will soon add up

I bought mine from Dublin last year - low 20's - little bit of work to put or on the road -about 1200 spent on it ( don't know where it went ) but I love it and if I sold it I would have to buy another - good luck with your search.

That was a good buy Dave, probably helped by the fact many of us though the advert was a scam!

Paul, I do know of a car which will be coming up for sale in the near future. It's a black interior car with manual transmission and is currently being worked on to get it up to MOT standard, after which it will be MOT'd and registered but in all other respects it will be a project/rolling restoration. I expect it will be offered around the £25k mark - if your budget will stretch to that I can put you in touch with the seller when the time comes (he is not interested in discussing the sale of the car until after Christmas).

Make sure you inspect the car prior to buying. I bought #0944 after a brief visit to the owner, who extensively described the state of the car. It is only in need of some small cosmetics.

There is one in Belgium for sale at the moment, but this one has had front accident damage, and needs to have quite a few parts replaced to get it properly road going. Shocks, brakes. The bodywork on outside is pretty ok, but if you want to do it properly, frame off, parts of, weld it, recoat it and put it back on.

My big advantage was that I worked a lot on the Lotus Esprit, a far cousin of the Delorean, so I had an impression of what I would be getting myself into.
