Looks pretty decent. A few things needed doing like fuel lines and coolant bottle (LCAs could do with boxing in or being upgraded). Otherwise not a bad car by the looks of it.

Try to haggle with them. See how much you can shave off the $40k asking price

That's about as good as a BHCC car gets. It runs! And the 'high' mileage is actually a real positive, hopefully it's mostly recent and not from 1985.

Have you done the sums on what it would cost to get it on the road here? $40k US plus shipping from west coast plus taxes plus import duty plus UK MOT regs faff. You might be in for £40k+ and that would get you a nice UK car (if you can find one).

Yeah definitely agree with you - that’s the calc I’m waiting on from them, I’ve got as many irons in the fire as possible including U.K. ones.

Hey all they are quoting me about 43000 usd (so just over 30 grand) delivered to Southampton and that’s pre haggle. Seems good? Can I ask your opinion of the carfax report too?

I uploaded it here - https://www.dropbox.com/s/xoo284x0hr3dl44/CARFAX%20Vehicle%20History%20Report%20for%20this%20vehicle_%20SCEDT26TXCD010379.pdf?dl=0

Seems they can’t verify mileage, which I’m not that worried about but also that it failed emissions tests all of last year. What do you lot think?

Don't read too much into the mileage, the reading for the speedo/milometer is taken from an angle drive located on the driver's side front wheel, they are very prone to failure and many people don't rush to replace them, especially these days with many having GPS etc which shows speed.

A higher mileage DeLorean, certainly if those miles were racked up recently, often implies that someone has used and probably maintained the car, so often those cars are less work to get on the road than a low mileage car which has been sat idle for years.

As james says above, mileage on a delorean is never accurate. When i got mine it read about 24k but the angle drive was shot. Going by the dial on the lambda its actual mileage was probably more around 40k and with some of the work ive seen done on my car (notably in the VOD) this wouldnt seem too far off a guess. Who knows but i aim to keep it working.

As for the emissons, this is likely why its being sold. In some states the emissions are far stricter than others and even more so than they are over here and theres not much the owner can do other than store it or sell it perhaps. Here we dont need the cat converter on it, there they do (which is why DPI sell their exhausts with cats). Its possible the cat isnt as efficient as it used to be. I would suggest you upgrade to a freeflow system anyway (sounds better and doesnt strangle the engine as much). If its not the cat, it could just need a tweek fuel wise. Either way, i wouldnt worry about it too much. Find a classic friendly MOT station and they wont even test emissions here

i would have to agree about the mileage, my trip counter was broken when i brought the car. i thought i know i will order another one off the duke and fix it myself. umm didn't go well it read 37,000 before i started then i finished fucking around with it, it read 47,000. and when i had my first car the angle drive broke just before we drove to France and i left it broken for a year. i think within the same year we went to France & Ireland and didn't put a single mile on the car. i think mec, dan and i was speeding the whole way as we set off all the speed cameras through France.

Good old times they were. 10+ years ago now, where does the time go :)

As for mileage, as others have said I wouldn't worry. Cars of this age will have had various bits changed on them over the years anyway. Mine for example only has 40k on the clock but has new wheel bearings, suspension bushes etc so that part of it is like a much lower mileage car, but the engine is out of another car that I have no idea on the mileage of, but even that's had new oil seals etc so again it doesn't really matter.
