There're two different generations of metal replacements. Old ones just replace the bit you pull, the current ones replace the whole assembly. I for one think 90 euro is pretty reasonable (I buy in from the US cos I find it's cheaper)

Here's a shot on the repair. This is before glueing, so the handle cover is still missing. I drilled through the parts and inserted 2 halves of a broken 1.5mm drill on either side. The metal part goes into the handle little over 1 full cm. With some super-strong glue it should be good enough for a while.

Just to let you know: the repair attempt was entirely futile. The stresses on the handle are way beyond the power of the superglue that I used.

Or Thomas's plastic handle on page one of this thread. That's if he has one, and if it can go on the "other" door ;)

It's not going to take much to get it here for June I shouldn't have thought (if it exists)

I've made a decision and i'll order a single metal one with Ed U. I seriously don't want to risk getting locked out because the other breaks on me as well.

The handle on the passenger side broke off because of too much stress. I realigned the latches on that door, but I didn't tighten one of the latch clips. That one came loose and when I tried to open the door I pulled too hard on the handle. Strangely, it didn't break at that moment. Only after I reattached the latch and opened the door at a later moment it came off. I suppose it was already seriously weakened by then.

I'll fix the new one on the driver's side and move the old plastic one to the passenger side.

Another -90 euro from the windscreen/aircon budget which now balances out at a stable minus 1640 euro. :(

The metal ones are a much better job, at least you know it should never need replacing again

Some ignorant side of me keeps thinking it shouldn't break off in the first place.

Today I drove up to Ed U to get 2 new door handles and other stuff. One is already in!

I'm keeping the other one for when I remove the trim on that door.
