Exterior door handle

Postby RobvdVeer » Mon May 10, 2010 5:22 pm

Crap.

Just opened the RH door and stood there with the handle in my hand. It broke off. Good thing is that I had the windows rolled down.

Apparently one of the 2 hinges was already broken so this was bound to happen. There's plenty of material left so i'll try to glue it back together with some superglue, but sooner or later they need replacement. Ed U sells one for 90€ which is a bit steep I think.

Anybody has a better offer/suggestion?

Is your door handle plastic Rob?
Mine looks like they are made out of metal. Maybe this was an upgrade feature or something.

If I had a choice I would go for a metal one if they are available.

Jup. It's plastic. I don't suppose metal would've broken off this easily. I'd prefer metal too.

I've read that there are metal replacements available. Old posts mention 'just the handle', other vendors mention complete assemblies, because transferring the old springs was tedious. I don't mind trying that out first before spending big money.

My car came with metal handles and I'm happy with them. I suppose Ed fitted them on my car.
My suggestion is to change them with the metal one(s): Murphy's law usually applies in this kind of situations..

I may have a drivers plastic one that you can have assuming they can be used on passenger side?

If so I'll try and dig it out tomorrow - replaced them both with metal upgrades

That's a mighty fine offer! This evening i've tried to repair it, but I'm not very convinced it'll hold in the long run.

The ones DMC sell are made from metal because I bought one back for mats car last month. I'll have to check what the ones on my car are, they will probably snap on the way to france or eurotec
