Does anyone have a spare Track Rod End they want to sell, or know what x-ref part this is and where to get it?

Any idea what they X ref to Martin ?

I have heard that there are some around that dont seem to 'fit' quite right due to the length of the thread / body so need chopping / retapping ? If you have heard that too?

Im not saying these are bud :)

The triumph herald ones I got hold of had to have 10mm chopped off the end.

I've only ever been unable to achieve 1mm toe in (it works better and makes the tyres last longer than the factory spec 3mm) on 2 cars, and the only common factor was that they were late 82 cars. The difference was less than 1mm.

I recommend machining 1mm off the lock nuts because it allows use of these widely available rod ends in the future. I didn't bother investigating a supply of thinner lock nuts anyway. Original ones had a plastic boot which after 28 years is very brittle.

I did this so I could adjust to 3mm toe in per wheel factory spec.

As a note there is a service bulletin that if you have the OEM original front springs, the front has to be loaded until you get the correct chassis height and then you set the toe in.

Luckily I don't have any issues with tyre wear at the front due to mis-alignment.
My alignment was done by Tony Bones at Wheels In Motion to factory settings:

on a hunter machine. My car was on the Hunter real time alignment machine on his open day and I got to have a go with it.
I confirmed the cars settings a week later using my supertracker optical gauge and wheel plates, but this takes longer to account for wheel run-out.

Much quicker than bits of string.

Just my experience.........
