Looking for a back wheel (trade)

Postby MML » Tue Jan 10, 2012 2:24 am

Hi folks,
bit of a long shot perhaps, but I'm looking to trade for a back wheel rim!
Somewhere in the mists of time a grey wheel found its way on to my silver-wheeled car. It sticks out like a sore thumb so I really want to do something about it. I had planned to get all four powdercoated silver (so they'd be a perfect match) but have since realised the grey one is a different style (less pronounced inner "ring") so even if I changed the colour it still wouldn't match.

I was wondering if anyone out there was in a similar situation, and be willing to swap? I'd prefer someone in the UK/Ireland, as postage might be steep.
It's over 500 euro for one from DMC EU so I'd rather not resort to buying a new one!

Thanks in advance!!
Martin

Here's what I have:

Here's what I need, notice the thicker inner ring:

I thought the only difference in production wheels was the colour!

Hi Martin

You may get lucky but have you thought about getting the wheel re-powdercoated?

Along with the faff of trying to get the wheel posted to who ever, tyres swapped, rebalanced etc it might be your best optionto get this done locally

Would a company that refurbishes wheels be able to make the pair match with a little machining?

Hi Mike, I did ask a local crowd about recoating all four wheels (to keep a consistent finish) but they want 275 euro for doing them; with all the other bits I need for the car I figured a swap would be the cheapest option!
I could possibly get the grey one on its own coated but I don't know how closely they could match the finish. If it comes to it though, I'll have to go that route!

I don't think they could, the other three basically have more material added to them as the 'ring' in the middle is a bit thicker, probably to strengthen the wheel I would reckon!

To be honest it took me two months to notice the different styles so if I do go the recoating route it'll blend in as long as no one goes looking on purpose :D

The place I take my wheels to colour match them.

Personally i would just get the one done for now and ask them to keep a record of the shade

Also it took someone 25 years to realise they had 'beefed up' the spokes on the wheels slightly and even when you go looking for them, like I did at one EuroTec event, it is really hard to spot
