Coolant Bottle

Before it is too late: what is the best (read: smart) way to replace the stock coolant bottle?

I hear lots about replacing them with SS versions, which sets me back at least 130 Euros (whereabouts). Anyone knows about a replacement part?

you can put a volvo one on, and you can see how much coolant you have as a bonus. Other than that just make sure the cap sits on a flat surface rather than the curve of the bottle on any stainless ones TT

You got a S/N on that Volvo type, or a type number of the Volvo in question?

Also, I do not really understand what you said on the curve of the bottle.

I can get a part number off the oem volvo coolant bottle for you when I get back to work on tuesday (where my car is in storage at the moment).

Well - it just so happens I (and Carl) have been researching this subject a bit. Neither of us know what we're talking about, so don't take this as gospel, or even an informed piece of information, but the Volvo part numbers we've got are:

1276040 (probably replaced by 3547466 ). I'm sure someone can verify this. A Google search should confirm (to the trained eye). :mrgreen:


The stainless version should be ok - but you will hear of a lot of people who have had problems with them, although they do look pretty!

Well - that's assuming I'm right! 8-) - none of these numbers have been checked out, so don't take my word for it. Plus also I can't really take the credit, as Carl did the legwork. ;)

Of course let me know if either of these do turn out to be correct, so we can update the parts cross reference section, and I can put something smug in my signature. ;)

Nice one TT. So you have the 1276040 (I checked: it is replaced by 3547466) in your D? How about the brackets and hose connections? Are they the same? perhaps you can send me a picture of it?

they fit in the original body mounts so no drilling, you get the bracket with it, but you have to modify and extend the pipe.
