Regarding the water pump spares
Firstly I would say that you really need a press to dismantle/ reassemble the pump in a controlled manner, great care needs to be taken.
Also, the seal seating which is on the back of the impeller needs to be inspected and if necessary machined/ground to a very fine finish to ensure a proper seal
The parts that we found were required in the pumps we overhauled are as listed below but I am unsure if there are other variants;

1 off bearing. 6202 2RS C3
1 off bearing. 6302 2RS C3
1 off mechanical seal 'bellows' type 268, size 5/8, ( carbon face, nitrile elastomer), the seal will come with a ceramic static seat which is not required as the seal runs against the impeller.

We purchase these parts within the trade and our supplier doesn't sell to the general public but you should be able to buy them from any decent local bearing/power transmission supplier or even EBAY

We also changed the pump casing gasket, we made this from sheet gasket material in the normal way.

I hope that this helps

Cheers

Mike

That's great Mike, thanks very much. Now the parts search and price assessment starts to see the viability of me doing it myself, or handing it to Dave H's man. I've already destroyed one pump trying to pull it apart. The Pulley was destroyed and I still didn't get the damned thing off. I've got access to a press now though, so i may continue with this bust up one as practice to see how well the press does at getting it off. did you stick the thing in the freezer or anything before pressing? To make it easier. Or did you just "go for it"?

The bearings seem fairly easy to source.

The "bellows" seal however....!?

No-one seems to quote a "Type 268". But based on 5/8" (15.875mm), is this the sort you mean, even if not EXACTLY the correct size?

No, that type of seal is not the one you want.
The problem here is that different manufacturers have different references for the different seal types, unfortunately I am not at work this week but when I am back in the office I will ask my store man for some cross references.
In the meantime, here is a photo of what it looks like, as I say, you will not need the ceramic seating (the part on the right)

Did you speak to a local bearing supplier as I suggested?

With all of this information I am sure that they will be able to help

Oh, one other thing, if you are going to attempt this repair, pay a little extra for reputable brand bearings ie FAG, SKF etc and don't be tempted by the cheap Chinese products on the market.

Cheers

Mike

I've not talked to anyone.

I just used your details to have a look around the net and Ebay.

Bearings (UK) source:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/200755153674? ... EBIDX%3AIT

Did you freeze the pump before pushing the pulley off the shaft, or do it at atmospheric temperature?

As Mike said, pay the little extra and get decent bearings, FAG and SKF bearings are readily available from Simply Bearings.

Hi Chris
Yes, that looks like the seal but I will check the dimensions when I am back in the office just to be sure

With regards the pulley, no don't freeze the pump to remove or fit but you will probably need some heat.

To be honest I can't recall the exact method of dismantling and rebuilding without the pump in front of me, this is why we are going to do our 'how to' write up when we get the next opportunity.

Cheers

Hi DBro 2 Signing in

Here's a couple of photos of the pump we refurbished and one of the parts in their boxes if it helps. As Mike says we hope to post a "how to" on the forum and we have the feelers out for a donor pump so the club can benefit having a spare to send out as a part ex perhaps.

Cheers Barry. I'll have a snoop around with those numbers too (black and yellow container)

"Rissy" has been around for a long time. A lot longer than the bathroom girl, I assure you lol!

It stems from my younger sister not being able to pronounce Christopher, or Chris, or more appropriate a pet name for a baby girl, Chrissy. So Chrissy became Rissy. It's just hung around since.

I've never given anyone head in the bathroom, I assure you. Lol! :-)
